Insights

The recent performance results of the Medical Home Network (MHN) provider partners participating in the NeueHealth Premier ACO demonstrate significant achievements in both cost savings and quality of care. These outcomes are particularly noteworthy considering the transition to the ACO REACH Model, which emphasizes equity, access and community health. The $10.1 million in gross savings indicates effective management of resources, while the 100% quality score reflects a high standard of patient care.

These results are critical for stakeholders, including patients, providers and payers. In the short-term, the savings and high-quality scores may lead to better patient outcomes and potentially lower insurance premiums or out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries. Long-term implications could include a shift in healthcare delivery towards more ACOs and value-based care models, as well as increased financial stability for participating FQHCs.

Understanding the role of FQHCs—healthcare providers that deliver services to underserved populations—is essential. Their inclusion in value-based care models could be a paradigm shift in managing care for the most vulnerable populations, ensuring they are not left behind as the healthcare system evolves.

The financial performance of MHN's participation in the NeueHealth Premier ACO has a direct impact on the financial health of the participating FQHCs and indirectly on the stock market performance of NeueHealth (NYSE: BHG). The reported savings and quality scores could be indicative of operational efficiency and a strong management team capable of navigating the complex landscape of value-based care.

Investors and analysts should consider these results as a potential indicator of NeueHealth's ability to manage risk and costs effectively. This could influence the company's stock valuation and attractiveness to investors seeking companies with a strong foothold in the evolving healthcare market.

It is also important to note that success in value-based care models can lead to more favorable contracts with payers, which can enhance revenue streams and profitability for the involved entities.

The implementation of AI-enabled risk assessments and stratification tools, as highlighted in MHN's approach, represents an innovative application of technology in healthcare. These tools are designed to identify patients at higher risk and allocate resources more effectively, potentially leading to the impressive outcomes reported.

From a research perspective, the integration of social determinants of health into care models is a growing trend that can lead to more comprehensive and personalized care. The impact of such an approach on patient outcomes and cost savings is a subject of interest for healthcare researchers and practitioners alike. The results from MHN's provider partners could serve as a case study for the effectiveness of technology and holistic care in a value-based healthcare environment.

Medical Home Network (MHN) provider partners participating in NeueHealth Premier ACO achieved $10.1 million in gross savings and a 100% quality score in the 2022 performance year, according to data recently released from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). These results were achieved under the Global and Professional Direct Contracting Model, now known as the ACO Realizing Equity, Access, and Community Health (REACH) Model, which included 20 FQHCs across Ohio, Missouri and Illinois working to improve care for approximately 10,000 Medicare beneficiaries.

MHN is a leading care enablement partner for safety net providers. MHN and its provider partners participating in the NeueHealth (NYSE: BHG) ACO, worked together to transform care for patients and excel in value-based care.

Participating providers used MHN’s team-based care model. MHN supported the FQHCs in hiring and training care coordinators and care managers who provide culturally tailored, whole-person care. Participants were also supported by MHN’s proprietary AI-enabled risk assessments and stratification inclusive of social drivers of health and clinical needs, as well as performance analytics to track care gaps, reduce ED visits and inpatient utilization.

“These nationally leading results are early proof that FQHCs can benefit from our team-based model of care and thrive as they enter value-based care arrangements,” said Cheryl Lulias, president, and CEO of MHN. “This also shows ACOs led by FQHCs can achieve stellar results.”

More than 30.5 million Americans rely on FQHCs for their care. As CMS works to achieve its goal of having 100% of Medicare beneficiaries in an accountable care relationship with their providers by 2030, FQHCs must continue to be included in value-based care efforts.
