The Stock Market Today, November 3, 2026, Ended Mixed as Chip Stocks Lifted the Nasdaq and Apple Weighed on the Dow
The stock market ended Election Day mixed, as chip stocks lifted the Nasdaq and Apple weighed on the Dow. In the evening, stock futures turned lower as traders bet on big Democratic wins in the midterms, CNBC reported at 7:48 p.m. ET. Earlier, AMD and Arista Networks had jumped after the close on sales above their own forecasts.
The short answer. Chip stocks lifted the Nasdaq Composite 0.83% on November 3, while the Dow fell 197 points, weighed down by Apple after a disappointing profit margin forecast, CNBC reported. Apple ended the regular session about $94 billion below its market value at Monday's close. Oil prices fell too. High oil prices have added to gasoline prices and inflation, CNBC noted. After the close, AMD and Arista Networks rose on sales above their own forecasts. By 7:48 p.m. ET, stock futures had turned lower as traders bet on big Democratic wins in the midterms, CNBC reported. Some on Wall Street think a large Democratic majority in the Senate could weigh on artificial intelligence stocks on Wednesday, because investors fear more limits on data centers, CNBC said.

The biggest moves followed company news. Aehr Test Systems and Clarivate ended among the top gainers, and Aurora Cannabis rose after Organigram agreed to buy it. Stock futures trim their gains as traders wait for the election results
Stock futures trimmed their early evening gains as the election results began to come in. S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures were each up 0.1%, and Dow futures were down 50 points, or 0.1%, CNBC reported at 6:54 p.m. ET. At 6:02 p.m. ET, Nasdaq-100 futures had been up 0.5%. CNBC had not yet called any races.
Some on Wall Street think a large Democratic majority in the Senate could weigh on stocks tied to the artificial intelligence buildout on Wednesday, CNBC reported. Investors fear such a win could bring more limits on data centers, it said. At 7:00 p.m. ET, AMD's after-hours gain had narrowed to 6.56% from its regular-session close, and Arista Networks was up 10.94%, StockTitan's real-time data show.
Flotek, which sells data analytics and chemistry services to energy and industrial customers, was up 22.64%, among the top after-hours gainers. Its quarterly revenue more than doubled to $114.4 million, and it raised its 2026 forecast (Flotek release).

AMD lifts stock futures as Amdocs sinks after its forecast
AMD's results lifted stock futures in the evening, as the first election results began to come in. Nasdaq-100 futures were up 0.5% and S&P 500 futures up 0.2%, while Dow futures were slightly lower, CNBC reported at 6:02 p.m. ET. AMD had the biggest influence on futures, and Nvidia, Intel and Micron rose with it, CNBC said. At 6:00 p.m. ET in after-hours trading, AMD was up 7.73% and Arista Networks 13.00% from their regular-session closes, StockTitan's real-time data show.
Two companies fell hard after their reports. Amdocs, which makes software for phone companies, was down 43.14% at 6:00 p.m. ET. It expects its revenue to fall 14.3% to 17.9% in its new fiscal year. It said that forecast reflects a dispute with its customer T-Mobile, in which each company says the other broke their contracts (Amdocs release).
Skyworks Solutions, which makes radio frequency chips for phones, was down 17.15%. It has just combined with Qorvo, and it expects December-quarter revenue of $1.80 billion to $1.90 billion. The middle of that range is about 7% below what the two companies sold together in the September quarter (Skyworks release).
5:05 p.m. ET
AMD and Arista jump after the close as their sales beat their own forecasts
After the bell, the evening's company results took over the story. At 5:00 p.m. ET in after-hours trading, AMD was up 8.29% from its regular-session close, StockTitan's real-time data show. Its third-quarter revenue rose to a record $13.4 billion, above the top of its own forecast, as its data center sales nearly doubled (AMD release, AMD earnings article). AMD expects about $17 billion in revenue in the fourth quarter.
Two companies that sell equipment for data centers also rose. Arista Networks, which makes network switches, was up 14.20%. Its revenue rose 58.5% to about $3.66 billion, above its own forecast (Arista release, Arista earnings article). Super Micro Computer, a server maker, was up 8.32% after record quarterly sales (Supermicro release, Super Micro earnings article).
Duolingo, the language learning app, was up 12.29%. Its daily users grew 29% from a year earlier, the company said (Duolingo release, Duolingo earnings article). Nurix Therapeutics, a drug developer, was down 33.97%. Sanofi is ending its work on a drug candidate that came out of its partnership with Nurix, so Nurix no longer expects payments tied to it (Nurix release).
4:05 p.m. ET
The Nasdaq ends the regular session higher as Apple keeps the Dow down
The regular session ended with the Nasdaq up and the Dow down. The Nasdaq side won back some of the ground it lost in the afternoon. At the 4:00 p.m. ET bell, the QQQ fund that tracks the Nasdaq-100 was up 0.62% from Monday's close, against 0.45% at 3:01 p.m. ET, StockTitan's real-time data show. The SPY fund that tracks the S&P 500 was up 0.30%, and the DIA fund that tracks the Dow was down 0.44%.
Apple cut its loss in the last hour. It ended down 1.90%, about $94 billion below its market value at Monday's close. Aehr Test Systems and Clarivate ended among the biggest gainers after their results, and Stevanato Group among the biggest losers.
AMD reports its results after the close, and the midterm election results come in tonight.
3:04 p.m. ET
The Nasdaq gives back part of its gain as Apple slides further
Stocks lost ground in the last hour, and Apple fell further. At 3:01 p.m. ET, the QQQ fund that tracks the Nasdaq-100 was up 0.45% from Monday's close, half its 0.90% gain at 2:01 p.m. ET, StockTitan's real-time data show. The SPY fund that tracks the S&P 500 was up 0.22%, and the DIA fund that tracks the Dow was down 0.47%. Apple was down 2.63%, about $130 billion below its market value at Monday's close.
The rise was narrow even before that. Technology was the best of the 11 S&P 500 sectors, up 1.4% in afternoon trading, CNBC reported at 2:17 p.m. ET. Six sectors were down, led by materials and consumer staples. More of the index's stocks were falling than rising, 291 against 211, CNBC said.
Two more companies that reported results joined the gainers. At 3:00 p.m. ET in regular trading, Clarivate, a data and analytics company, was up 24.10%. It updated its 2026 forecast after it finished selling its life sciences and healthcare business early (Clarivate release). Columbus McKinnon, an industrial equipment maker, was up 16.37%. Its quarterly sales more than doubled to $539.3 million after an acquisition, and it raised its full-year forecast (Columbus McKinnon release).
2:03 p.m. ET
The Dow cuts its loss to 100 points as the Nasdaq extends its gain
Stocks climbed further since late morning. The Nasdaq Composite was up 1.1% and the S&P 500 up 0.6% in CNBC's 1:20 p.m. ET update. The Dow was down 100 points, still weighed down by Apple, CNBC said. At 2:01 p.m. ET, Apple was worth about $93 billion less than at Monday's close.
Shopify's quarterly revenue of $3.74 billion came in just below the $3.75 billion analysts expected, according to LSEG data cited by CNBC. It also missed estimates for its subscription gross profit and for the value of orders on its platform, CNBC reported. Shopify was down 5.95% at 2:01 p.m. ET in regular trading (Shopify release).
Two more companies that reported results joined the gainers. At 2:00 p.m. ET in regular trading, SI-BONE, a medical device maker, was up 17.36%. Its third-quarter revenue rose 14.5% to $55.7 million, and it reaffirmed its 2026 revenue forecast (SI-BONE release). BETA Technologies, which makes electric aircraft, was up 16.34%. Its record quarterly revenue of $17.7 million nearly doubled, and it raised its 2026 revenue forecast (BETA release).
1:04 p.m. ET
The Nasdaq holds its gain into the afternoon as Bill Ackman warns the market is broken
The market's split held into the afternoon. At 1:03 p.m. ET, the QQQ fund that tracks the Nasdaq-100 was up 0.90% from Monday's close, StockTitan's real-time data show. The SPY fund that tracks the S&P 500 was up 0.51%, and the DIA fund that tracks the Dow was down 0.34%.
A well-known investor sounded a warning. Bill Ackman, who runs the investment firm Pershing Square, told CNBC he worries that the stock market is broken. He said speculative trading with a lot of borrowed money is leading to "massive moves in stocks."
A company that reported this morning joined the gainers. Xometry, an online marketplace for custom manufacturing, was up 17.64% at 1:01 p.m. ET in regular trading. Its third-quarter revenue rose 40% to a record $252 million (Xometry release). Sysco fell further and was down 9.00% at the same time. The food distributor cited soft restaurant traffic and higher than expected fuel costs in its quarter (Sysco release).
12:04 p.m. ET
The Dow trims its loss as chip stocks keep the Nasdaq higher
The Dow cut part of its loss in the last hour, while the Nasdaq held its gain. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.8% and the S&P 500 up 0.4% in CNBC's 11:44 a.m. ET update. The Dow was down 217 points, or 0.4%, still weighed down by Apple, CNBC said. Investors moved back into big tech stocks after their recent drop, according to CNBC.
Not everyone thinks the worst is over. Shawn Snyder of Potomac Fund Management believes the market is not out of trouble yet, CNBC reported. He said concerns about the cost of capital and the debt financing needed are "going to persist for quite some time." The cost of capital is what it costs companies to raise money.
Palantir slid further. At 12:01 p.m. ET its market value was about $13 billion below Monday's close, a gap that had been about $6 billion at 11:02 a.m. ET. Apple's loss in market value shrank to about $107 billion at the same time.
11:05 a.m. ET
Nasdaq widens its gain as chip stocks climb and Apple keeps the Dow lower
The Nasdaq added to its gain in the last hour as chip stocks kept climbing. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.8% and the S&P 500 up 0.3% in CNBC's 10:57 a.m. ET update. The Dow was down 264 points, weighed down by Apple, CNBC said. AMD and Broadcom led the chip gains, according to CNBC.
Investors are also looking ahead to tonight's midterm election results. The market is not yet priced for Democrats winning both the House and the Senate, CNBC reported. Investors and analysts told CNBC that such a result could weigh on stocks on Wednesday.
More companies that reported results joined StockTitan's board. At 11:00 a.m. ET in regular trading, Graphic Packaging was up 18.49% after it reaffirmed its 2026 cash flow outlook (Graphic Packaging release). Sportradar was up 15.62% after its revenue grew (Sportradar release). CVR Energy was down 13.3% after it proposed a $750 million stock offering, $500 million of it new shares from the company and $250 million from its controlling shareholder (CVR Energy release).
10:05 a.m. ET
Stocks open mixed as chip stocks lift the Nasdaq and Apple weighs on the Dow
The open followed the futures. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.4% and the S&P 500 0.1% as trading began, while the Dow fell 188 points, or 0.4%, weighed down by Apple, CNBC reported. The Nasdaq-100 rose 0.5% but was still more than 10% below its recent high, CNBC said. That index tracks 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq.
Chip stocks kept rising. Micron rose 4%, and Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom and Intel each rose around 3%, according to CNBC. Oil stayed lower, with Brent crude down 1% near $103 a barrel, CNBC reported.
New names led StockTitan's board in regular trading. Ibotta, Aehr Test Systems and Aurora Cannabis led the gainers, and Stevanato Group, ADTRAN and Gartner led the losers. Some early gainers, such as Backblaze, gave back part of their rise.
9:01 a.m. ET
Chip stocks lift S&P 500 futures as oil falls on Iran deal hopes
Futures turned higher in the last hour as chip stocks bounced and oil fell. S&P 500 futures were up 0.2% and Nasdaq-100 futures up 0.8% in CNBC's 9:00 a.m. ET update. Dow futures were still down 0.2%, held back by Apple, CNBC said. Micron, AMD and Intel led the chip gains, according to CNBC.
Oil turned lower on rumors of progress toward a US and Iran deal, CNBC reported. Brent crude was down 3% at $101.54 a barrel.
Fiserv joined the gainers. It was up 10.30% at 9:00 a.m. ET in pre-market trading, after it raised its cost savings target and said it plans to buy back shares (Fiserv release). Zebra Technologies was down 14.16%, even though its results beat FactSet estimates, CNBC noted (Zebra release). Sysco, the food distributor, was down 5.79% after it reported its quarter this morning (Sysco release).
8:03 a.m. ET
Dow futures slide as Shopify joins Apple and Palantir in the morning's losses
The Dow side of the market weakened in the last hour. Dow futures were down 359 points, or 0.7%, at 7:58 a.m. ET, CNBC reported. S&P 500 futures were down 0.1% and Nasdaq-100 futures up 0.4%. Brent crude gave back most of its early gain and was only slightly higher, near $105 a barrel, CNBC said.
Shopify reported its third quarter at 7:00 a.m. ET. StockTitan's real-time data showed it down 15.82% at 8:00 a.m. ET in pre-market trading (Shopify release). Dynatrace, which reported at 6:30 a.m. ET, was down 13.30%, and Adeia, which reported after the close on Monday, was down 20.42%.
Two companies that reported after the close on Monday joined the gainers. Lattice Semiconductor rose 10.54% after record revenue (Lattice release), and Ethos rose 10.97% after its revenue more than doubled (Ethos release).
6:42 a.m. ET
Apple and Palantir fall while chip stocks rise on Election Day
The morning starts split. Apple and Palantir are sliding after their results, while chip stocks edge higher. At 5:06 a.m. ET, Dow futures were down 0.42% and Nasdaq 100 futures were up 0.46%, Reuters reported.
Oil turned higher after falling more than 7% on Monday. Brent crude was up 1.75% at $106.60 a barrel, CNBC reported in a story updated at 4:58 a.m. ET. Backblaze led StockTitan's pre-market board after its results (Backblaze release), and Compass Pathways also rose as it said it will file for FDA approval of its depression treatment within two weeks (Compass release).
Why is the stock market mixed today
The market was pulled in different directions today. Apple's forecast weighed on the Dow, CNBC said, while chip stocks rose and oil fell. All of it landed on Election Day.
Tech went into the day already bruised. The Nasdaq-100 closed Monday in a correction, more than 10% below its October 6 record high, CNBC's Morning Squawk said.
The split held to the close. Technology was the best of the 11 S&P 500 sectors at 2:17 p.m. ET, up 1.4%, CNBC reported. Still, at that time more of the index's stocks were falling than rising, 291 against 211, CNBC said. At the close, the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.83% and the S&P 500 up 0.36%, ending three days of losses, CNBC reported. The Dow fell 197 points, or 0.38%.
Why did the Nasdaq side hold up? Chip stocks rose. Reuters wrote before the open that a rise in most chip stocks was "helping offset some losses among tech stocks." By the close, AMD had gained more than 3% and Broadcom 3%, while Micron and Nvidia each added more than 2%, CNBC reported. After the close, AMD reported record revenue, and its shares rose in after-hours trading.
That bounce stands out, because chip stocks fell hard overseas. South Korea's Kospi ended 3.59% lower and Taiwan's main index also fell 3.59%, CNBC reported. In Europe, ASML fell 3.4% in early trading, according to CNBC.
Then there is oil, which has swung both ways. Oil fell more than 7% on Monday, when the US and Iranian presidents signaled they were open to a diplomatic solution, CNBC reported. Brent crude, the world benchmark, rose early Tuesday after a reported US strike on Iran's Qeshm Island. CNBC cited The Wall Street Journal's report, based on unnamed US officials. By 9:00 a.m. ET Brent had turned lower on rumors of progress toward a deal, CNBC said. It settled 1.12% lower at $103.60 a barrel, CNBC said. Reuters had earlier cited an Iranian official who said the two countries remained far from a deal.
Oil matters beyond energy stocks. High oil prices have added to inflation and to gasoline prices, CNBC noted. Last week, two Federal Reserve presidents said interest rates will need to move higher to rein in inflation, CNBC reported. The 10-year Treasury yield edged up to about 4.91%, according to CNBC. That is the rate the government pays to borrow for ten years.
Finally, it is Election Day. Americans are voting in the midterm elections, and CNBC reported that investors were weighing Apple's results while they awaited the vote. In the evening, the vote began to move stock futures.
Why are stock futures down tonight
Stock futures turned lower on Tuesday evening as traders bet on big Democratic wins in the midterms, CNBC reported. Some on Wall Street fear that a large Democratic Senate majority could bring more limits on data centers and weigh on artificial intelligence stocks.
Futures tied to the S&P 500 rose when the evening session opened, then turned lower as polls began to close, CNBC reported. By 7:48 p.m. ET they were down 0.6%. Kalshi odds for Democratic control of the Senate had risen to around 90%, and to 97% for the House, CNBC said. CNBC had not called any races, and polls had not yet closed in every state.
The worry centers on artificial intelligence. Some on Wall Street think a large Democratic majority in the Senate could weigh on stocks tied to the AI buildout on Wednesday, CNBC said. Investors fear it could bring more limits on data centers. AI stocks had already pulled back in recent weeks on concern that data center spending is slowing, CNBC noted.
AMD shows the shift. Its shares jumped after its results, but the gain shrank as futures fell, and other chip stocks that had risen with it turned lower, CNBC reported. Election nights have often brought wild swings in markets, CNBC noted. Many investors believe any move from this election will be short lived, it added.
Why is Apple stock down today
Apple reported record revenue for the September quarter, but its forecast for its profit margin in the holiday quarter disappointed investors, CNBC reported. Apple warned that memory chips will keep getting more expensive, Reuters reported.
Apple reported Monday after the close. Revenue for its fiscal fourth quarter, which ended September 26, rose 12% to $114.5 billion, a record for a September quarter, the company said (Apple release, Apple earnings article). Its gross margin was 47.9%. That is the share of sales left after the cost of making its products. That figure includes about 1 point from tariff refunds.
The problem is the next quarter. Apple's forecast for its gross margin in the holiday quarter disappointed investors, CNBC reported. Reuters said Apple warned that the cost of memory chips would keep rising, which pressures that margin.
That forecast is costly for the stock. Apple fell 3% early in the session, CNBC reported. It ended the regular session down 1.90% from Monday's close. That is about $94 billion less market value than at Monday's close. The loss had been about $202 billion at 9:00 a.m. ET, before the open, so Apple won back more than half of it.
Why is Palantir stock down today
Palantir's sales nearly doubled, but the value of new contracts with US businesses grew much more slowly. CNBC tied the fall to that slowdown.
The numbers in Palantir's report point two ways. Revenue for the third quarter rose 96% to $2.313 billion, and Palantir raised its revenue forecast for 2026 (Palantir release, Palantir earnings article). Sales to US businesses grew 148%.
The weaker line is contracts. Total contract value rose just 6% to $2.918 billion. That is the full value of the new deals Palantir signed. The value of new contracts with US businesses rose 11%. CNBC reported that Palantir fell on this slowdown in new US business contracts, citing a note from William Blair.
So sales today are booming, while new deals signed this quarter grew far less. Palantir ended the regular session down 1.65%, leaving its market value about $8 billion below Monday's close.
Why did AMD and Arista stock rise and Amdocs fall after the close
AMD and Arista Networks both sold more than they had forecast, and their shares rose in after-hours trading. Amdocs and Skyworks Solutions fell after weak forecasts.
AMD's third-quarter revenue rose 45% to a record $13.4 billion, above the top of its own forecast (AMD release, AMD earnings article). Its data center sales rose 97% to $8.5 billion. AMD expects about $17 billion in revenue in the fourth quarter. Its results lifted stock futures early in the evening, and Nvidia, Intel and Micron rose with it, CNBC reported at 6:02 p.m. ET. By 7:48 p.m. ET, those other chip stocks had turned lower, CNBC said.
Arista Networks, which makes network switches, said its revenue rose 58.5% to about $3.66 billion, above its own forecast of $3.3 billion (Arista release). Super Micro Computer, a server maker, reported record quarterly sales (Supermicro release). Duolingo and Flotek also rose after their results (Duolingo release, Flotek release).
Not every report went well. Amdocs, which makes software for phone companies, expects its revenue to fall 14.3% to 17.9% in its new fiscal year. It said that forecast reflects a dispute with its customer T-Mobile (Amdocs release). Skyworks Solutions expects December-quarter revenue of $1.80 billion to $1.90 billion after its combination with Qorvo (Skyworks release). Nurix Therapeutics fell after Sanofi ended its work on a drug candidate from their partnership (Nurix release).
Biggest stock movers today and why
Many of the biggest gainers at the close are smaller companies that reported strong results or agreed to a deal. Several of the morning's early gainers gave back part of their rise once regular trading began.
Aehr Test Systems, which makes machines that test chips, ended the regular session up 26.50%, StockTitan's real-time data show. Its revenue tripled to a record, and it raised its full-year forecast to $150 million, the top of its earlier range (Aehr release).
Clarivate climbed almost as much after it reported its third quarter. It updated its 2026 forecast after it finished selling its life sciences and healthcare business early (Clarivate release).
Aurora Cannabis ended up 22.27%. On Tuesday morning, Organigram agreed to buy it for C$7.80 a share, paid in cash, Organigram shares or both, the two companies said (Organigram and Aurora release).

Backblaze, a cloud storage company, ended up 13.24%, far less than its 32.43% gain at 9:00 a.m. ET. Its third-quarter revenue rose 26% (Backblaze release). Fiserv ended up 12.46%, after it raised its cost savings target and said it plans to buy back shares (Fiserv release).
The biggest drops came from companies that also reported, with figures at the 4:00 p.m. ET bell. Stevanato Group, which makes vials and syringes for drug makers, was down 28.57%. It said it now expects less revenue than before from GLP-1 drugs. It believes that will slow its growth for a time in 2027 (Stevanato release).
Bioventus, a medical device maker, was down 16.77% after it reported its third quarter (Bioventus release). CVR Energy, an oil refiner, was down 13.09%. It proposed selling $500 million of new shares to help pay for two refineries it agreed to buy and to repay debt. Its controlling shareholder plans to sell $250 million of shares in the same offering (CVR Energy release).
ADTRAN was down 19.43%. It said its third-quarter revenue came in slightly below the middle of its forecast range, as it worked through a challenging supply environment (ADTRAN release). Gartner, the research firm, was down 13.19% (Gartner release).
Adeia was down 13.59%. It lowered its 2026 revenue forecast to a range of $375 million to $415 million (Adeia release). Dynatrace was down 14.69% (Dynatrace release) and Zebra Technologies 8.76% (Zebra release). Zebra fell even after its results beat FactSet estimates, CNBC noted. Shopify fell after parts of its results came in below analysts' estimates, CNBC reported, even though its revenue rose 32% (Shopify release, Shopify earnings article). Sysco, the food distributor, also fell after its first-quarter results (Sysco release).
