Key Terms

trust officer financial
A trust officer is a professional at a bank or trust company who acts like a guardian for other people’s money and property, managing investments, following legal instructions in trusts or estates, and making distributions to beneficiaries. Investors care because trust officers exercise fiduciary control over assets, choose or oversee investments, and ensure legal and tax rules are followed—actions that affect returns, risk and the timing of cash flows from those assets.
estate planning financial
A set of instructions and legal steps that decide who gets your money, property and other assets, and who will manage them if you become unable to do so. For investors it matters because thoughtful planning can reduce taxes and delays, protect heirs, and keep investments from being tied up in court—think of it as a clear map and emergency kit that preserves value and directs where assets go when you can’t.
trust services financial
Trust services are professional activities where a firm or individual legally holds, safeguards and manages assets or records for other people or entities, acting with a duty to put clients’ interests first. Think of it as a combination of a secure vault, an accountant and a decision-maker who follows agreed rules; for investors, using a trusted provider affects custody safety, fee costs, tax and legal handling, and how easily assets can be transferred or claimed.
