Semtech Expands LoRaWAN® Reach in SMB and Smart Home
Semtech (Nasdaq: SMTC) has announced the availability of its one-channel LoRaWAN hub reference design and evaluation kit. This new offering targets smaller scale network deployments, particularly for SMB/SME and smart home applications. The design is based on Semtech's high-performance LoRa® transceivers and enables cost-effective, smaller scale LoRaWAN® infrastructure deployments.
According to Omdia, LoRaWAN is predicted to have the greatest annual growth at 30% over the 2023–30 forecast period. The technology is finding a niche in longer-distance, lower-power applications and has advantages in multi-unit installations due to its ability to penetrate glass, steel, and concrete easily.
The new one-channel hub reference design is expected to unlock new use cases and opportunities for adoption in markets that can benefit from LoRa's long-range, low-power capabilities, particularly in home applications such as security, insurance claim mitigation, and environmental monitoring.
