Sinclair has announced the return of its News Academy, offering free virtual workshops for college students interested in journalism careers. The 90-minute sessions will cover reporting, producing, and weather and will run from November 19-21, 2023. The Reporter Academy, now in its fourth year, will focus on reporting basics and investigative storytelling across multiple platforms. The Producer Academy, in its seventh year, caters to students interested in digital or broadcast news producing. The Weather Academy, introduced last year, returns for its second annual session.
These interactive workshops provide students with insights into Sinclair's modern content centers and the opportunity to engage with industry-leading teams. Sessions will cover topics such as what to expect in the first year of work, how to excel in various roles, and how to prepare resumes and reels. Sinclair’s Reporter Academy, now in its fourth year, is hosted by Sinclair’s award-winning news operation, giving students an opportunity to learn about Sinclair’s modern content centers and interact with the company’s industry-leading teams. Students will learn the basics of reporting and investigative storytelling across multiple platforms, what their first year may look like working in a content center, how to excel in their role and how to package a resume and reel. The Reporter Academy will be held on Tuesday, November 19, from 12-1:30pm ET.
Sinclair’s Producer Academy, a workshop for students interested in pursuing a career in digital or broadcast news producing, which is now in its seventh year, will be held on Wednesday, November 20, from 12-1:30pm ET.
Last year, Sinclair expanded the session programming to include a weather workshop. The second annual Weather Academy will be held on Thursday, November 21, from 12-1:30pm ET.
