Sinclair has announced the return of its News Academy, offering free virtual workshops for college students interested in journalism careers. The 90-minute sessions will cover reporting, producing, and weather and will run from November 19-21, 2023. The Producer Academy, in its seventh year, caters to students interested in digital or broadcast news producing. The Weather Academy, introduced last year, returns for its second annual session.

These interactive workshops provide students with insights into Sinclair's modern content centers and the opportunity to engage with industry-leading teams. Sessions will cover topics such as what to expect in the first year of work, how to excel in various roles, and how to prepare resumes and reels. The academies are open to both undergraduate and graduate students, who must register by November 18 using a .edu email address.

Sinclair has launched Sinclair Cares: Hurricane Helene Relief, a fundraising partnership with the Salvation Army to assist with humanitarian relief efforts in Western North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Virginia and Tennessee. The initiative aims to provide emergency aid, including food, water, shelter, and cleanup kits to those affected by Hurricane Helene.

Fundraising begins immediately through www.SinclairCares.com, with a concentrated effort on Friday, October 4. Sinclair has pledged to match donations up to $50,000 for the first $50,000 raised through the website. The app features a unique 'Newsroom immersion' experience, utilizing Vision Pro's spatial aspects to display interactive news maps and create an immersive environment. NewsON's app provides access to content from over 280 local TV stations, covering more than 90% of U.S. households.

Powered by RealityKit and SwiftUI, the app offers photorealistic 3D renderings and intuitive user experiences. The collaboration aims to transform how audiences interact with local news, leveraging cutting-edge technology to blend digital content with physical surroundings. This innovative approach sets a new standard for immersive and engaging news consumption in the era of spatial computing.

WBFF's Project Baltimore has won a National News Emmy® Award for their investigative series 'Disabled & Denied'. The series exposed how Baltimore City Schools violated federal education rights by denying proper education to students with disabilities. This led to multiple state-level investigations and mandated improvements in the district's special education programs.

The award, presented by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), recognizes outstanding regional investigative reporting. The winning team includes Carolyn Peirce, Chris Papst, Ray Rogowski, Jed Gamber, and Anthony Durso.

The Portland Trail Blazers have announced a new era of broadcasting, partnering with Sinclair Broadcast Group to launch the Rip City Television Network and BlazerVision, a direct-to-consumer streaming service, starting with the 2024-25 season. This marks the first time in franchise history that a majority of games will be available over-the-air on local TV, quadrupling broadcast reach throughout Oregon and Washington.

The Rip City Television Network will air games on Sinclair's local stations, including KATU and KUNP in Portland, with expanded coverage in Seattle, Medford, Eugene, and Yakima/Pasco. BlazerVision, priced at $120 annually or $19.99 monthly, will offer all non-exclusive nationally televised games, on-demand replays, and exclusive content.
