RTX (NYSE: RTX) subsidiary Raytheon has delivered its 13th AN/TPY-2 radar to the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, featuring significant technological upgrades. This latest version is the first to incorporate a complete Gallium Nitride (GaN) populated array, which enhances range and surveillance capabilities while supporting hypersonic defense missions.
The radar system includes advanced CX6 high-performance computing software for improved target discrimination and electronic attack protection. Operating in the X-band electromagnetic spectrum, the AN/TPY-2 can effectively distinguish between threats and non-threats, such as separation debris, while detecting and tracking ballistic missiles across multiple flight phases.
Raytheon, an RTX business, and German partner RAM-Systems GmbH have achieved a significant milestone with the delivery of their 250th RAM MK49 Guided-Missile Launching System (GMLS) to the U.S. Navy. The system will be installed on the USS Pittsburgh, a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock.
The RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile) program, approaching its 50th anniversary, represents a bilateral partnership between the U.S. and Germany. The system protects naval assets from advanced threats, serving vessels ranging from 220-foot corvettes to 1,100-foot nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. Beyond the U.S. and Germany, RAM has been adopted by multiple nations including Egypt, Japan, Korea, and others.
Raytheon has recently doubled its GMLS manufacturing capacity to meet growing global demand, while continuing to invest in system modernization and capability enhancements.
RTX (NYSE: RTX) subsidiary Raytheon has secured a $580 million follow-on production contract from the U.S. Navy for the Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band (NGJ-MB) system. The contract includes production of additional NGJ-MB pod shipsets for both the U.S. Navy and Royal Australian Air Force, along with spares and support equipment.
The NGJ-MB is an airborne electronic attack system featuring two pods with active electronically scanned arrays operating in mid-band frequency. Deployed on EA-18G Growler aircraft, it targets advanced radar threats, communications, data links, and non-traditional RF threats. The contract work will be executed across multiple U.S. locations through 2028.
RTX, Tawazun Council, and Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish gallium production capabilities in Abu Dhabi. The initiative would make the UAE the world's second-largest gallium producer, with production facilities at EGA's Al Taweelah alumina refinery. Gallium, a critical mineral found in trace amounts in bauxite, is essential for semiconductors, defense products, electric vehicles, medical devices, and telecom infrastructure.
The agreement includes plans for a feasibility study for a high-purity gallium plant. This strategic partnership aims to secure a reliable supply of gallium for RTX's aerospace and defense solutions while creating an additional revenue stream for EGA and advancing the UAE's industrial growth strategy Operation 300bn.
RTX's Raytheon has successfully completed the first flight test of its PhantomStrike radar in Ontario, California. The next-generation radar system, which successfully tracked airborne targets and mapped terrain, is a fully air-cooled, fire-control radar designed for long-range threat detection. Key features include:
PhantomStrike costs nearly half the price of typical fire control radars while delivering superior capabilities through faster digital beam, advanced target detection, and jamming resistance. Powered by gallium nitride (GaN), the radar weighs approximately half of a modern AESA radar and is compatible with various platforms including uncrewed aircraft, fighter jets, helicopters, and ground-based towers.
Production takes place across facilities in Forest, Mississippi; Tucson, Arizona; and Scotland, with support from Raytheon UK.
RTX's Raytheon division successfully demonstrated its ASTARTE (Air Space Total Awareness for Rapid Tactical Execution) system during Project Convergence Capstone 5. The AI-enabled software system enhances airspace operations and deconfliction in congested battlespaces by integrating with multiple military command and control systems.
During the demonstration, Army and Air Force personnel utilized ASTARTE in a Live, Virtual, Constructive environment to manage dynamic targets using various military assets. The system provided real-time recommendations and automated common operational picture generation, significantly improving decision-making efficiency compared to manual processes.
Since its previous demonstration at Capstone 4, ASTARTE has been enhanced with new capabilities, improved reliability, and the ability to handle larger scenarios, showcasing its adaptability to evolving military requirements.
