Key Terms

ophthalmic solution medical
An ophthalmic solution is a liquid medicine formulated to be placed in the eye, like eye drops, used to treat conditions such as infections, inflammation, pressure changes, or dry eye. Investors track these products because their approval, safety record, manufacturing quality and patent status determine sales potential and competition—think of it like a packaged household remedy whose shelf life, rules and maker reputation affect its market value.
antihistamine medical
A medicine that reduces or blocks the body’s response to histamine, a chemical that causes common allergy symptoms like sneezing, itching, hives and runny nose. For investors, antihistamines matter because they make up a large, steady market in both over‑the‑counter and prescription sales; shifts in demand, new formulations, patent status, safety signals or regulatory changes can quickly influence a drug maker’s revenues and stock value, much like a household staple whose sales reflect everyday health trends.
u.s. food and drug administration (usfda) regulatory
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) is the federal agency that evaluates and approves medicines, medical devices, food safety measures, and related products before they can be marketed in the United States. For investors, its decisions act like a gatekeeper: approvals can unlock sales and revenue, while rejections, delays or safety warnings can halt products and reduce a company’s value — similar to a building inspector approving or blocking a new storefront.
