O’Reilly Automotive (ORLY) reported robust second-quarter results, with a 16.2% increase in comparable store sales and a 19.4% total sales growth, reaching $3.09 billion. Diluted EPS surged 57% to $7.10. The company benefited from improved sales post-COVID-19 headwinds, driven by strong DIY demand and favorable economic conditions, including government stimulus. 2nd Quarter Comparable Store Sales Results
Comparable store sales are calculated based on the change in sales for U.S. stores open at least one year and exclude sales of specialty machinery, sales to independent parts stores and sales to Team Members, as well as sales from Leap Day in the six months ended June 30, 2020. In order to conserve liquidity in response to COVID-19, the Company suspended its share repurchase program on March 16, 2020. As previously announced, the Company withdrew all previously issued 2020 guidance, and given the ongoing uncertainty related to COVID-19, the Company is not resuming 2020 guidance at this time.
