ComEd Joins Special Olympics Chicago/Special Children’s Charities to Take the Chicago Polar Plunge for the 11th Year in a Row
ComEd employees are set to raise $100,000 during the Chicago Polar Plunge on March 6, aimed at supporting athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities. This initiative has raised nearly $2 million over more than a decade. The ComEd Coolers team, led by CEO Gil Quiniones, remains one of the top fundraising teams, participating for 11 years. The funds will benefit year-round sports programs for over 4 million customers in Chicago, with a significant number living at or below the poverty line.

ComEd’s collective impact comes from contributions big and small from employees throughout the organization. Nearly 4,800 employees have supported the Polar Plunge since ComEd began participating in the fundraising event, with many returning year after year to lead teams.
ComEd Substation Supervisor Arturo “Art” Chavez is a pioneer of the plunge who initially sparked ComEd’s interest and 11-year participation in the annual event. Chavez was inspired to take the plunge by people in his life with disabilities; his leadership and charitable spirit reflect ComEd’s commitment to its diverse communities.
“I’m proud to represent ComEd in taking the annual Chicago Polar Plunge to demonstrate our commitment to the communities we serve,” said Chavez. “Each time I do the plunge I’m reminded of the lasting impact this one day has on the talented children and adults with disabilities who work hard to compete in year-round training and sports competitions.
