CommScope’s new, high density 36-fiber flat cable is a small form factor cable aimed at speeding delivery of rural FTTx deployments. Flat cables have been utilized for many years primarily focused on drop applications to homes and businesses. High density flat cables like CommScope’s new 36-fiber flat cable expands the application possibilities beyond drop to include the buildout of feeder and distribution networks.

The innovative 36-fiber flat cable maintains the same size outer dimensions of single fiber flat cable allowing for use of existing tooling and deployment hardware. The 36-fiber flat cable is uniquely comprised of three micro tubes in the central core of the cable with each tube containing 12 250-micron fibers. The micro tube design addresses the fiber identification challenges seen with other 24 or 36 fiber flat cables.
