QNX, Vector, and TTTech Auto have announced a multi-year global collaboration to develop and market a foundational vehicle software platform. The initiative aims to eliminate complex software integration issues that currently plague automakers. The platform will be pre-integrated, lightweight, and certified to the highest automotive functional safety (ISO 26262 ASIL D) and security (ISO 21434) standards.

The collaboration addresses a critical industry challenge where automakers spend significant resources on software platform development and maintenance, dealing with hundreds of software providers and integration complexities. The new platform will allow OEMs to focus on developing consumer-facing applications that build brand differentiation instead of managing underlying software infrastructure.

The core platform will be jointly developed by QNX and Vector, combining their expertise in operating systems and automotive middleware solutions. TTTech Auto will contribute expertise in task scheduling and communication. The platform's general availability will be announced in FY'26.

BlackBerry (NYSE:BB)(TSX:BB) announced the rebranding of its 'BlackBerry IoT' division to 'QNX', strengthening its position in automotive and embedded industries. The strategic relaunch aims to boost recognition and reinforce leadership in Software-Defined Vehicles and mission-critical systems.

QNX technology is currently integrated into more than 255 million vehicles and various critical embedded systems including medical devices, industrial controls, and robotics. The division recently launched significant products including QNX Software Development Platform (SDP) 8.0, QNX Sound, and QNX Everywhere initiative.

The rebranding includes a new visual identity, logo, website, and tagline - 'It all starts here'. The revitalized QNX brand will debut at CES 2025 (January 7-10) in Las Vegas, where the company will showcase its complete suite of automotive offerings.

BlackBerry (BB) reported strong Q3 FY2025 results, beating revenue guidance for both Cybersecurity and IoT divisions. Total revenue reached $162 million with a 74% gross margin. IoT revenue grew 13% sequentially to $62 million, while Cybersecurity revenue increased 7% to $93 million.

The company achieved positive operating and free cash flow ahead of schedule, with total cash and investments at $266 million. Notable highlights include a definitive agreement to sell Cylance to Arctic Wolf and QNX technology now powering over 255 million vehicles. BlackBerry provided Q4 guidance of $126-135 million in revenue and raised the bottom end of full-year IoT guidance.

BlackBerry (NYSE:BB) has agreed to sell its Cylance endpoint security assets to Arctic Wolf for $160 million in cash and approximately 5.5 million Arctic Wolf common shares. The deal structure includes $80 million cash at closing, with an additional $40 million to be paid one year later. The transaction is expected to close in BlackBerry's fourth fiscal quarter.

Cylance, known for AI-based endpoint protection, will be integrated into Arctic Wolf's Security Operations Aurora Platform. The acquisition aims to enhance Arctic Wolf's market position by combining Cylance's endpoint security capabilities with their existing platform, offering comprehensive security coverage from endpoint to edge.

BlackBerry's Secure Communications portfolio, including UEM, AtHoc, and SecuSUITE, will remain unaffected by this transaction. BlackBerry will continue as a reseller of the portfolio to government customers and maintain a stake as a shareholder in Arctic Wolf.

BlackBerry and TTTech Auto have announced a new solution called MotionWise Schedule for QNX Software Development Platform (SDP) 8.0, designed to address complexities in automotive software development for Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). The solution provides high-performance runtime environment with deterministic task scheduling, optimizing resource utilization and reducing design efforts.

The new offering simplifies complex integration tasks by automating scheduling solutions, allowing incremental software additions without compromising quality. It delivers improved OS task switching and increased CPU resource availability compared to other scheduling policies. The solution will be available in early 2025 and will be demonstrated at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.

BlackBerry has announced it will release its third quarter fiscal year 2025 financial results on December 19, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. ET. BlackBerry AtHoc has reached the 'In Process' stage for FedRAMP High Authorization status, positioning it to become the first critical event management solution to achieve this designation. Currently used by over 75% of U.S. federal government agencies, AtHoc provides crisis communications and incident response capabilities. The FedRAMP High authorization is designed for securing the government's most sensitive unclassified data in cloud environments. The system has introduced new features including Dynamic Operational Management and Enhanced Geofencing. Existing customers using AtHoc with FedRAMP Moderate will have the option to upgrade once final authorization is achieved.

BlackBerry has integrated Avathon's computer vision AI platform into its AtHoc critical event management solution. The integration enhances AtHoc's ability to securely collect, validate and share information across channels for coordinated emergency response. AtHoc, which operates independently from enterprise IT networks, now leverages Avathon's visual AI technology to provide real-time insights from CCTV cameras, enabling object detection, scene classification, and proactive decision-making capabilities.

The partnership aims to strengthen AtHoc's position as a comprehensive crisis management platform by providing users with enhanced real-time data analysis and incident response capabilities.

BlackBerry welcomes the Government of Canada's $3.9M CAD investment in Malaysia's Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE). In partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University's Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst, the initiative aims to train 3,500 cyber-defenders from Malaysia and ASEAN countries. The program includes comprehensive cybersecurity curriculum development, dedicated programs for women, and globally-recognized industry certifications. The CCoE, opened in March 2024, represents a collaboration between BlackBerry and the Malaysian Government to enhance regional cyber resilience and establish Malaysia as a hub for cybersecurity excellence in Southeast Asia.
