Key Terms

less-than-truckload technical
Less-than-truckload (LTL) is a freight shipping method where multiple customers share space on the same truck because each shipment is too small to fill a full truck. Like taking a shared taxi instead of hiring a car for just yourself, LTL can lower shipping costs and improve flexibility but adds handling steps and transit stops, so it matters to investors because it affects companies’ delivery speed, logistics costs, inventory timing and overall profit margins.
perimeter breach detection technical
Perimeter breach detection is the set of tools and procedures that identify when someone or something crosses a defined boundary around a physical site or digital network—using sensors, cameras, access logs, or monitoring software to trigger alerts. For investors it signals how well a company protects its people, property and systems: strong detection reduces the chance of theft, downtime, regulatory fines and reputational damage, while gaps can lead to costly incidents and hit shareholder value.
cargo theft technical
Cargo theft is the stealing of goods while they are being transported or held in transit, whether from trucks, ships, warehouses, or loading docks. It matters to investors because stolen inventory reduces sales and profits, raises insurance and security costs, and can disrupt supply chains and customer deliveries — similar to a store suddenly losing a shipment, which can shrink revenue and damage a company’s reputation and margins.

The only carrier in ATA history with 12 wins and three consecutive honors

FORT SMITH, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ArcBest® (Nasdaq: ARCB), an integrated logistics company, today announced its less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight® has received the 2025 American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) Excellence in Security Award. ABF is the first carrier to earn the award 12 times and the only carrier to receive it three consecutive years.

The ABF Freight team accepted the Excellence in Security Award at the ATA’s 2026 Safety, Security & Human Resources National Conference and Exhibition Awards Banquet.

The ABF Freight team accepted the Excellence in Security Award at the ATA’s 2026 Safety, Security & Human Resources National Conference and Exhibition Awards Banquet.

ABF previously received the ATA Excellence in Security award in 2024, 2023, 2019, 2016, 2015, 2011, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004 and 2001.

The ATA Excellence in Security Award is a nationally recognized honor focused exclusively on security performance within the trucking industry. Presented annually by the ATA’s Transportation Security Council, the award recognizes one motor carrier that demonstrates sustained leadership in security practices and sets the standard for protecting its employees, customers’ freight, facilities and equipment.

“Earning the ATA’s Excellence in Security Award for a record twelfth time reflects the high standards we hold across ABF’s network,” said Matt Godfrey, president of ABF Freight. “From training and technology to strong partnerships with local and federal law enforcement, security is embedded into how we operate every day. Our customers trust us with their freight, and this recognition speaks to the disciplined, consistent work our teams do to deliver the dependable experience they expect from ABF.”

In 2025, ABF’s Safety and Security teams began implementing several new initiatives to further strengthen network security, including the installation of solar-powered lighting to provide continuous illumination across dock and yard areas and the launch of a perimeter breach detection program. The system alerts ABF’s 24-hour safety communications and support team when a fence is cut, climbed or otherwise compromised.

Additional ongoing security measures include regular on-site risk and compliance assessments, prevention training and active monitoring for cargo theft and fraud.

Members of ABF’s Safety and Security teams accepted the award on April 2 at the ATA’s Safety, Security & Human Resources National Conference & Exhibition Awards Banquet in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
