Analysis

The stock dropped -17.3% in the session following this news. A negative reaction despite the Q1 2026 metrics would fit Adeia’s occasionally volatile pattern around earnings, where one tagged event saw about -16.08% even as other quarters posted gains. The latest update shows revenue of $104.8M, adjusted EBITDA of $62.3M, and reaffirmed 2026 guidance at $395.0–435.0M. History suggests that even fundamentally solid quarters can face pressure if expectations were higher or prior gains near the $33.385 52-week high left positioning crowded.

Key Terms

adjusted ebitda, gaap, non-gaap, diluted earnings per share, +4 more
8 terms
adjusted ebitda financial
"achieved 60% adjusted EBITDA marginPaid down debt by $28 million"
Adjusted EBITDA is a way companies measure how much money they make from their core operations, like running a business, by removing certain costs or income that aren’t part of regular business activities. It helps investors see how well a company is doing without distractions from unusual expenses or gains, making it easier to compare companies or track performance over time.
gaap financial
"GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) was $0.21 and non-GAAP"
GAAP, or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, are a set of standardized rules and guidelines that companies follow when preparing their financial statements. They ensure consistency, transparency, and comparability across different companies, making it easier for investors to understand and compare financial information accurately. This helps investors make informed decisions based on trustworthy and uniform financial reports.
non-gaap financial
"GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) was $0.21 and non-GAAP diluted EPS was $0.38"
Non-GAAP refers to financial measures that companies use to show their earnings or performance without including certain expenses or income that are often added back to give a different picture. It matters because it can make a company's results look better or more favorable, but it may also hide important costs, so investors need to look at both GAAP (official rules) and non-GAAP numbers to get a full understanding.
diluted earnings per share financial
"GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) was $0.21 and non-GAAP"
Diluted earnings per share is a measure of a company's profit allocated to each share of stock, taking into account all possible shares that could be created through stock options, convertible bonds, or other securities. It shows the lowest possible earnings per share if all these potential shares were issued, helping investors understand the worst-case scenario for their ownership. This figure matters because it provides a more conservative view of a company's profitability per share.
cash flow from operations financial
"Cash flow from operations was $58.5 millionPaid down $28.1 million"
Cash flow from operations is the money a company actually generates from its core business activities—sales, services and day-to-day operations—after paying routine costs like wages and suppliers. Investors watch it like a company’s operating “paycheck” because it shows whether the business can fund growth, pay debts and return cash to shareholders without relying on loans or one-time asset sales; steady positive cash flow is a sign of financial health.
term loan financial
"Paid down $28.1 million on our term loanRepurchased $10.0 million"
A term loan is a type of loan that is borrowed for a set period of time, with a fixed schedule for repaying the money, usually in regular payments. It matters to investors because it represents a company's borrowing costs and financial stability; reliable repayment of these loans can indicate strong financial health, while difficulties may signal potential risks.
stock repurchase plan financial
"bringing the remaining amount available under its stock repurchase plan to $150.0 million"
A stock repurchase plan is a company’s program to buy back its own shares from the market, reducing the number of shares available to investors. Like a store buying back its own gift cards to raise the value of remaining cards, buybacks can increase each remaining share’s claim on profits and often signal management believes the stock is undervalued or is an efficient way to return cash, which can affect share price and investor returns.
hybrid bonding technical
"hybrid bonding is rapidly being designed into products for the logic and memory markets"
Hybrid bonding is a chip-assembly method that joins two silicon pieces face-to-face using very small metal and insulating connections, creating many tiny direct electrical links instead of relying on larger external wires. For investors, it matters because it lets device makers build smaller, faster and more energy-efficient processors and memory stacks, potentially improving product performance, reducing manufacturing costs, and creating competitive advantages along the semiconductor supply chain.

Signed new license agreements with AMD and Microsoft
Generated $58 million in cash from operations and achieved 60% adjusted EBITDA margin
Paid down debt by $28 million bringing our outstanding balance to less than $400 million

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 04, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Adeia Inc. (Nasdaq: ADEA) (the “Company” or “Adeia”) today announced financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2026.

“We had a strong start to 2026, delivering first quarter revenue of $105 million, generating $58 million in operating cash flow, and maintaining strong profitability with a 60% adjusted EBITDA margin,” said Paul E. We believe our deal execution year-to-date highlights both the strength of our IP portfolio in our core markets, like Pay-TV, consumer electronics and social media, and our ability to expand our business with new customers in growth markets like semiconductors and e-commerce. Our non–Pay-TV recurring revenue continued to grow, with an impressive 28% year-over-year increase in the quarter, reflecting progress in diversifying our business. We are excited to see our foundational innovations gaining broad market adoption. Most importantly, hybrid bonding is rapidly being designed into products for the logic and memory markets that are supporting the AI ecosystem. We also remained disciplined in our capital allocation, reducing debt to less than $400 million while continuing to return capital to shareholders and invest in our patent portfolios, including tuck-in acquisitions.”

The non-GAAP financial measures disclosed by the Company should not be considered a substitute for, or superior to, financial measures calculated in accordance with GAAP. Our use of non-GAAP financial measures has certain limitations in that the non-GAAP financial measures we use may not be directly comparable to those reported by other companies. For example, the terms used in this press release, such as EBITDA margin, which is defined as EBITDA as a percentage of revenue, adjusted EBITDA, non-GAAP operating expenses, non-GAAP net income and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) do not have a standardized meaning. Other companies may use the same or similarly named measures, but exclude different items, which may not provide investors with a comparable view of our performance in relation to other companies. We seek to compensate for the limitation of our non-GAAP presentation by providing a detailed reconciliation of the non-GAAP financial measures to the most directly comparable GAAP measures in the tables attached hereto.
