(NASDAQ: VRAY) today announced that the Acibadem Group, one of the leading private healthcare service institutions in Turkey, has purchased a second MRIdian MRI-guided radiation therapy system for installation at the Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.
Renowned for its desire to invest in cutting edge technologies, Acibadem Group began treatments with its first MRIdian system at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in September 2018, marking the first MRI-guided radiotherapy treatments in Turkey. The team at Acibadem Maslak Hospital has been using MRIdian to deliver stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) with on-table-adaptive capabilities, especially for the treatment of prostate, pancreas and liver cancer, along with a variety of other cancer types. With the install of their MRIdian system later this year, the team at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital is interested in exploring neuro-oncology, thoracic-oncology and uro-oncology.

Comprised of 22 hospitals and 18 medical centers across five countries, Acibadem Group signed a joint partnership with IHH Healthcare in 2012 which enabled them to be a part of world's second largest healthcare chain. The MRIdian system provides oncologists outstanding anatomical visualization through diagnostic-quality MR images and the ability to adapt a radiation therapy plan to the targeted cancer with the patient on the table. This combination allows physicians to define tight treatment margins to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure of vulnerable organs-at-risk and healthy tissue and allows the delivery of ablative radiation doses in five or fewer treatment sessions, without relying on implanted markers. By providing real-time continuous tracking of the target and organs-at-risk, MRIdian enables automatic gating of the radiation beam if the target moves outside the user-defined margins. This allows for delivery of the prescribed dose to the target, while sparing surrounding healthy tissue and critical structures, which results in minimizing toxicities typically associated with conventional radiation therapy.
Nearly 18,000 patients have been treated with MRIdian. Currently, 50 MRIdian systems are installed at hospitals around the world where they are used to treat a wide variety of solid tumors and are the focus of numerous ongoing research efforts.
