Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), has received the Medgar Evers College Equity and Impact Award for its demonstrated commitment to diversifying the workforce of educators and providing support for students from underserved communities.
Voya Financial was one of four major companies recognized at the recent Medgar Evers Legends and Legacy Inauguration Scholarship Gala, which celebrated 52 years since the college’s founding as well as the beginning of a new legacy of leadership with the institution’s first female president, Dr. Patricia Ramsey.
During the gala — themed “Moving Forward, Together” — Braeden Mayrisch, Voya’s associate vice president, stakeholder equity and impact, and vice president of Voya Foundation, accepted the award on behalf of the company.
“We greatly appreciate Medgar Evers College and the work we’ve done together to recruit the next generation of promising educators,” said Mayrisch, who is also a board member of the Medgar Evers College Educational Foundation. “The students who benefit from the programs we work with Medgar Evers to build have great potential, and we know that the college is here to nurture it.”
Medgar Evers is a predominately Black institution within the City University of New York system. The college has a longstanding relationship with the Voya Foundation, helping to advance Voya’s education strategy of diversifying America’s teacher workforce; providing training, development and scholarship opportunities to educators and aspiring educators; and encouraging high-potential STEM, business and other students to consider careers in America’s classrooms.
