On July 29, 2020, Steve Madden (Nasdaq: SHOO) reported a second-quarter revenue drop of 68.2% to $142.8 million compared to $449.6 million in 2019, driven by COVID-19 impacts. Amounts referred to as “Adjusted” exclude the items that are described under the heading “Non-GAAP Adjustments.”
The Company reclassified commission and licensing fee income to Total Revenue and reclassified its respective expenses into Operating Expenses from previously labeled Commission and Licensing Fee Income - Net on the Company's Consolidated Statement of Operations for each period provided.
Second Quarter 2020 Review

68.2% to$142.8 million compared to$449.6 million in the same period of 2019. - Gross margin was
39.1% compared to37.8% in the same period last year. - Operating expenses as a percentage of revenue were
55.7% compared to27.0% of revenue in the same period of 2019. Adjusted operating expenses as a percentage of revenue were53.8% compared to26.9% of revenue in the same period of 2019. - Loss from operations totaled (
$23.7) million , or (16.6% ) of revenue, compared to income from operations of$44.6 million , or9.9% of revenue, in the same period of 2019. Adjusted loss from operations was ($21.0) million , or (14.7% ) of revenue, compared to Adjusted income from operations of$49.1 million , or10.9% of revenue, in the same period of 2019. - Net loss attributable to Steven Madden, Ltd. was (
$16.6) million , or ($0.21) per diluted share, compared to net income attributable to Steven Madden, Ltd. of$36.6 million , or$0.44 per diluted share, in the prior year’s second quarter. Adjusted net loss attributable to Steven Madden, Ltd. was ($14.7) million , or ($0.19) per diluted share, compared to Adjusted net income attributable to Steven Madden, Ltd. of$39.5 million , or$0.47 per diluted share, in the prior year’s second quarter.
