Ponce Financial Group, Inc. Reports First Quarter 2023 Results
Ponce Financial Group (NASDAQ: PDLB) reported a net income of $0.3 million, or $0.01 per diluted share, for Q1 2023, a notable recovery from net losses of $9.2 million in Q4 2022 and $6.8 million in Q1 2022. The increase was largely driven by an improved provision recovery related to Grain Technology. Net interest income fell to $15.2 million, down 5.7% from the previous quarter and 12.1% year-over-year, primarily due to rising funding costs. First Quarter 2023 Highlights (Compared to Prior Periods):
- Net income of
$0.3 million or$0.01 per diluted share, for the three months ended March 31, 2023, as compared to net loss of ($9.2) million , or ($0.40) per diluted share for the three months ended December 31, 2022 and net loss of ($6.8) million , or ($0.31) per diluted share for the three months ended March 31, 2022. - Included in the
$0.3 million of net income for the first quarter of 2023 results is$15.2 million in net interest income and$1.8 million in non-interest income, offset by a$16.4 million in non-interest expense. - Net interest income of
$15.2 million for the first quarter of 2023 decreased$0.9 million , or5.70% , from the prior quarter and$2.1 million , or12.07% , from the same quarter last year, largely due to an increase in funding costs driven by the significant increase in interest rates during the quarter. - Net interest margin was
2.75% for the first quarter of 2023, a decrease from2.98% for the prior quarter and from4.68% for the same quarter last year. - Cash and equivalents were
