To be considered for the list, hospitals must first have evaluations in at least 21 of the 31 Healthgrades procedures and conditions using independent, publicly available Medicare inpatient data from the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) file from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). To determine the top hospitals for 2025, Healthgrades then evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
Furthermore, hospitals that have received the America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award in consecutive years over an extended period of time are considered for additional honors.
