The solar system was declared active and online on March 13, 2024, and is anticipated to offset 146 metric tons of carbon (CO2) emissions per year. The system is now fully operational following successful commissioning.
As Northeastern University embarks on environmentally responsible strategies to decarbonize its campus, the Snell Library Rooftop Solar Installation is an important milestone in a series of building and energy investments to support the University’s sustainability goals. To celebrate this exciting installation, Northeastern University held a flip the switch ceremony on April 2nd, 2024, at the Snell Library Quad. Speakers for the event included Michael Williamson, Ameresco’s Director of PV & BESS Construction, East Region, Leah Bamberger, Executive Director of Northeastern’s Climate Justice and Sustainability Hub, Dan Cohen, Vice Provost for Information Collaboration and Dean of the University Library, and a current Northeastern Student.
