NEW YORK, Oct. 26, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Six months ahead of schedule, Verizon is bringing more choice for customers in Delaware as it completes its deployment of high-speed broadband internet service across the state. Nearly 2,000 homes and businesses in Camden, Dover, Smyrna, Bridgeville and Ocean View now have access to high-speed internet. Over 200 miles of fiber – the equivalent of running fiber between Rehoboth Beach and NYC – were deployed in connection with the build.

“We are bringing our outstanding internet service to more people than ever, especially in unserved and underserved areas,” said Matt Noren, Vice President of Wireline Network Operations-Mid-Atlantic North Region for Verizon. “Our commitment to more residents of Delaware continues as we are able to offer our 100% fiber Fios internet service to fuel how they work, live and play.”

The project was done with over $6 million in funding provided as part of the American Rescue Plan (ARP).

“We applaud Governor Carney and his team for their leadership in establishing a robust broadband program in Delaware,” said Eric Fitzgerald Reed, Public Policy & State Government Affairs for the DE, PA and NJ Region at Verizon. “Verizon is focused on delivering broadband internet services and this partnership expands high-speed broadband access to thousands of residents and will better connect our communities. We look forward to similar opportunities in other communities as they arise.”

Additionally, Delaware residents get even more choices as Verizon is expanding its wireless home and business internet services, powered by 5G Ultra Wideband, in parts of Rehoboth and Dewey Beach.

Providing connectivity to all communities

In an effort to provide connectivity to families in need across the country, Verizon participates in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)1 a U.S. government program run by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to help low-income households pay for internet service. With ACP eligibility and the Verizon Forward Program2, customers can get free home internet service – no hidden fees or annual contracts, and no equipment charges or data caps. You are eligible for ACP if you (or someone in your household) participate in certain government assistance programs.
