- Return on average assets (“ROAA”) was
1.33% , compared to1.41% for the fourth quarter 2022, and0.51% for the first quarter 2022. - Return on average equity (“ROAE”) was
15.63% , compared to18.70% from the preceding quarter, and5.81% from the first quarter a year earlier. - Net interest income increased
1% , or$162,000 , to$13.1 million , compared to$12.9 million for the fourth quarter of 2022, and increased58% , or$4.8 million , from$8.3 million from the first quarter a year ago. - Net interest margin (“NIM”) improved 39 basis points to
4.51% compared to4.12% from the preceding quarter and expanded 180 basis points from2.71% in the first quarter a year ago. - Gross loans balances increased
$4.9 million , or1% , to$645.6 million at March 31, 2023, compared to$640.7 from the preceding quarter end. - Total deposits declined
$70.0 million to$1.11 billion , compared to$1.18 billion from the fourth quarter 2022, with core deposits representing94% of total deposits at March 31, 2023. Liquidity metrics were robust with:

The Company manages new loan origination volume using concentration limits that establish maximum exposure levels by certain industry segments, loan product types, geography and single borrower limits. The loan portfolio continues to be well-diversified and is originated predominately within our Western Washington and Oregon markets.
Credit Quality metrics remain low and below historical norms with nonperforming assets at
Adoption of New Accounting Standard In June 2016, Financial Accounting Standards Board issued Accounting Standard Update No. 2016-13, Measurement of Credit Losses on Financial Instruments (ASU 2016-13). The allowance for credit losses under ASU 2016-13 utilizes a Current Expected Credit Losses (“CECL”) methodology which estimates the expected loan losses over the contractual life of the loans. GAAP prior to ASU 2016-13 required an “incurred loss” methodology for recognizing credit losses that delays recognition until it is probable a loss has been incurred.
