PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- NW Natural has been recognized as a Cogent Syndicated 2023 Most Trusted Utility Brand by Escalent for having scored highest in the West among natural gas utilities in the Brand Trust Index.

Among the 141 utilities surveyed, NW Natural scored 717 on a 1,000-point scale, landing among one of the nation’s most trusted utilities, according to Escalent.

The Brand Trust Index is a composite score of utility performance on customer focus, community support, communications effectiveness, reliable quality, environmental dedication and reputation.

According to Escalent, inflation and higher energy costs throughout 2022 led many customers to seek programs and services to help manage energy use. Utilities that invest in programs and communication regarding energy management and savings see higher brand trust – for example, customers enrolled in energy management programs gave their local utility an 11 percent higher Brand Trust score.

Escalent conducted surveys among 72,581 residential electric, natural gas and combination utility customers of the 141 largest US utility companies (based on residential customer counts). The sample design uses a combination of quotas and weighting based on US census data to ensure a demographically balanced sample of each evaluated utility’s customers based on age, gender, income, race and ethnicity. Utilities within the same region and of the same type (e.g., electric-only providers) are given equal weight to balance the influence of each utility’s customers on survey results.
