Insights

The impressive $22.7 billion raised through 171 IPOs on Nasdaq in 2024 signals a robust recovery in the IPO market, reaching its highest volume since 2021. The 81% win rate for Nasdaq-eligible IPOs demonstrates the exchange's continued dominance in attracting new listings. Notably, the $180 billion in market cap from 23 exchange transfers, including high-profile companies like Palantir and Campbell's, reinforces Nasdaq's competitive edge over NYSE.

The strong performance across healthcare, technology and biotech sectors, with a 100% capture rate for eligible biotech IPOs, underscores Nasdaq's sector specialization. The SPAC market remains active with $6.9 billion raised and an impressive 87% market share of eligible listings, indicating continued appetite for alternative public offering routes.

The 2024 IPO data reveals significant market trends and structural shifts in public listings. The high volume of private equity and venture-capital backed companies (33% of IPOs) suggests strong institutional confidence in public markets. The geographic expansion strategy, evidenced by the new leadership appointment for Texas, Southern U.S. and Latin America, targets a substantial market with 493 clients representing $2.5 trillion in market cap.

The sustained leadership in SPAC combinations with a 91% win rate indicates Nasdaq's ability to adapt to evolving market dynamics. The positive forecast for 2025 through the IPO Pulse Index, coupled with "hundreds of companies waiting in the wings," suggests continued momentum in listing activity.
