Insights

The first quarter net revenue of RMB1,475.3 million, marking a 31.5% increase year-over-year, indicates robust growth for Jiayin Group Inc. This is a positive sign for investors as it showcases the company’s ability to enhance revenue amidst macroeconomic fluctuations. However, an increase in the facilitation and servicing expense by 143.3% is concerning, as it suggests a rise in operational costs, possibly jeopardizing long-term profitability. While the net income slightly decreased by 2.4%, it is relatively stable. Investors should closely monitor how these expenses evolve.

Additionally, the dividend policy and updated share repurchase plan are promising as they signal confidence in financial stability and a commitment to shareholder value. However, the mixed financial signals imply a need for cautious optimism. For the retail investor, these results show strength in revenue growth but also highlight potential challenges in maintaining cost efficiency.

The increase in loan facilitation volume by 13.6% indicates a healthy demand for Jiayin’s services. This growth is important in the context of China’s fintech landscape, where fierce competition and regulatory scrutiny can significantly impact performance. The rise in the repeat borrowing rate to 73% from 67.8% suggests high customer satisfaction and loyalty, which are positive indicators for sustaining long-term growth.

The fact that the delinquency rate for loans more than 180 days overdue has increased to 2.62% as of March 31, 2024, up from 2.07% at the end of 2023, may raise concerns about credit risk management. This detail is critical for investors to gauge the quality of the loan portfolio and assess potential future losses. The company’s proactive approach in expanding into emerging markets with controlled risks presents both opportunities and challenges, highlighting the importance of strategic growth plans.

Jiayin's integration of artificial intelligence (AI) from labor-intensive scenarios to knowledge-intensive areas is a noteworthy development. This strategic use of AI enhances operational efficiency and competitive advantage. In a sector where technological advancements can significantly alter market dynamics, Jiayin’s focus on AI could lead to improved customer service, better risk management and reduced costs in the long run. For investors, such technological integration underscores a forward-thinking approach that aligns with trends in global fintech innovation.

However, the industry should watch out for implementation risks and the need for continuous updates and regulatory compliance. The successful application of AI could be a substantial value driver, but it requires sustained investment and expertise.

Revenue from releasing of guarantee liabilities was RMB524.5 million (US$72.6 million), compared to RMB128.8 million in the same period of 2023. The year-over-year increase was primarily due to the growth in average outstanding loan balances which the Company provided guarantee services.
