Insights

The reported financial results by Domo, Inc. reflect a modest year-over-year growth in total revenue and subscription revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter, with a respective 1% and 2% increase. However, the company's billings have shown a slight decline of 1% for the full fiscal year, which could indicate a potential slowdown in future revenue growth, as billings often serve as a leading indicator. The improvement in both GAAP and non-GAAP operating margins suggests that Domo has been effective in controlling costs or improving operational efficiency. However, the persistence of GAAP and non-GAAP net losses, despite these improvements, raises questions about the company's path to profitability.

Investors will likely focus on the cash position, which remains relatively stable and the operating cash flow, which is positive, indicating some level of operational health. Yet, the guidance for the upcoming fiscal year suggests that the company expects continued net losses. The lack of reconciliation for non-GAAP metrics could be a concern for transparency and may require stakeholders to scrutinize the adjustments made. Overall, these results should be weighed against industry benchmarks and competitors' performance to fully assess Domo's financial health and growth prospects.

Domo's emphasis on strategic investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and data to enhance their full suite of solutions is indicative of the company's commitment to innovation and staying relevant in a competitive market. The recognition received from various research and advisory firms, such as Ventana Research and Dresner Advisory Services, underscores Domo's position as a leader in analytics and business intelligence platforms. This could strengthen the company's market position and brand perception, potentially leading to increased customer acquisition and retention.

However, the market's reaction to these results and outlook will depend on how these innovations translate into financial performance. The company's guidance suggests modest revenue growth and continued net losses, which may not align with investor expectations for a high-growth tech company. It is important to consider the broader market trends, such as the increasing demand for AI-driven analytics and how Domo's product offerings and strategic focus are positioned to capitalize on these opportunities.

Domo's focus on expanding its AI capabilities and data solutions is a strategic move that aligns with current technology trends. The integration of AI into analytics platforms is becoming a standard in the industry and Domo's Domo.AI solution being named a finalist in the 2023 Cloud Awards signals the company's potential to innovate in this space. The recognition for collaborative, augmented, embedded and mobile analytics also demonstrates Domo's comprehensive approach to meeting diverse customer needs.

The technology sector, particularly in AI and data analytics, is highly competitive and Domo's investments in these areas are crucial for maintaining a competitive edge. However, the ability to monetize these investments and convert them into sustainable revenue streams will be critical for Domo's long-term success. The company's business outlook and expected continued net losses suggest that while Domo is investing in growth areas, it may take time for these investments to reflect in the bottom line. Stakeholders should consider the potential of Domo's technology advancements against the backdrop of the company's financial sustainability.

We intend to use the Domo Facebook page, the Domo LinkedIn page, the Domo blog, the @Domotalk X account and the @JoshJames X account as a means of disclosing information about the Company and its services and for complying with the disclosure obligations under Regulation FD. The information we post through these social media channels may be deemed material. Use of Non-GAAP Financial Measures

To supplement our condensed consolidated financial statements, which are prepared and presented in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the United States of America (GAAP), we reference in this press release and the accompanying tables the following non-GAAP financial measures: billings, non-GAAP subscription gross margin, non-GAAP operating expenses, non-GAAP operating loss, non-GAAP operating margin, non-GAAP net loss, non-GAAP net loss per share, and adjusted free cash flow. In computing these measures, we exclude the effects of certain items including stock-based compensation expense, amortization of certain intangible assets, severance of executive officers who report to the Chief Executive Officer, and proceeds from shares issued in connection with the employee stock purchase plan.

As it relates to adjusted free cash flow, we add back amounts equal to the proceeds from shares issued in connection with employee stock purchase plan to reflect the non-cash nature of these transactions. Because no cash is exchanged in these transactions, showing proceeds in the financing section of the statement of cash flows as required by GAAP results in a corresponding decrease in the operating section, which management believes is not indicative of actual cash used in or provided by our operations. We believe that this non-GAAP cash metric is useful because it provides investors with the same information that management uses to consistently evaluate, forecast and measure the Company’s actual cash flows and its ability to achieve and maintain positive cash flows.

We use these non-GAAP financial measures for financial and operational decision-making and as a means to evaluate period-to-period comparisons. Our management believes that these non-GAAP financial measures provide meaningful supplemental information regarding our performance and liquidity by excluding certain expenses that may not be indicative of our ongoing core business operating results. We believe that both management and investors benefit from referring to these non-GAAP financial measures in assessing our performance and when analyzing historical performance and liquidity and planning, forecasting, and analyzing future periods.

During fiscal year 2024, we revised our definition for non-GAAP statement of operations line items to adjust for executive severance expenses. We have revised the prior period amounts to conform to our current period presentation.

For a reconciliation of these non-GAAP financial measures to GAAP measures, please see the tables captioned "Reconciliation of Non-GAAP Financial Measures" included at the end of this release.
