Calix extends its 10G PON market leadership with new Intelligent Access EDGE XGS-PON capabilities enabling broadband service providers to reduce OPEX and CAPEX and simplify the management of an Always On subscriber experience with Calix Operations Cloud and the Network Innovation Platform (AXOS)
Over 225 BSPs around the world are building Calix-powered XGS-PON networks to deliver high-speed symmetrical 10G services to both residences and businesses. For these BSPs, a reliable access network, along with continued subscriber satisfaction, are critical long-term investments. With the Intelligent Access EDGE and new XGS-PON capabilities, BSPs can advance their future proofing capabilities even further by realizing these three benefits.
- Deliver an Always On 10G network: The combination of Operations Cloud enhancements and the latest Network Innovation Platform XGS-PON Redundancy (standards-based Type B protection) capability ensure that critical services—especially business services—remain operational even with fiber cuts. XGS-PON redundancy keeps the service running and Operations Cloud—with new alarm correlation capabilities for fiber cuts and power outages—enables repair crews to rapidly pinpoint and restore damaged fiber lines. Broadband service providers can now filter alarms to quickly find issues across specific categories such as batteries, optics, and ONTs. These insights allow BSPs to precisely identify issues and optimize truck rolls while cutting operational costs.
- Simplify service delivery to remote subscribers: The Network Innovation Platform, the recently launched E7-2 XG801 line card (and its advanced thermal management capabilities), and new temperature hardened extended range XGS-PON optics, enable BSPs to rapidly deliver Always On XGS-PON based services in remote locations even in extreme environments. The new 40km XGS-PON optics extend 10G coverage areas by up to 300 percent—supporting more serviceable addresses and subscribers with the same OLT footprint. This enables BSPs to lower OPEX and CAPEX, as new subscribers can be added without waiting for new OLT installations and turnups. Since the new optics are temperature hardened, they can be placed in an E7-2 system within a remote cabinet at further distances from subscribers’ homes.
- Future proof, easy on-premises installation: The Calix Network Innovation Platform capability for Automated Network Service Provisioning and the new GP1101X XGS-PON ONT enable subscriber services to be rapidly turned up without a truck roll. The on-premises 10G LAN connectivity ensures a single turn-up meets subscriber needs for years to come. This makes the network future proof by enabling BSPs to remotely upgrade new subscriber services—eliminating on-premises hardware upgrades and significantly reducing OPEX.
With its Always On capabilities, Calix customers are leveraging the Intelligent Access EDGE with the Network Innovation Platform and Operations Cloud to deploy multi-gigabit services throughout rural areas and over challenging terrain. For example,
“As the region’s fastest all-fiber optic network, we take pride in delivering an exceptional subscriber experience,” said
“Broadband service providers need 10G XGS-PON networks to support applications like HD and 4K content streaming, video surveillance services, and cloud-enabled interactive gaming,” said
