Lead Portfolio Manager Paul Wick has managed the fund for more than 30 years

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Columbia Threadneedle Investments today announced that the Columbia Seligman Technology and Information Fund (SLMCX) is celebrating its 40-year anniversary. The $9.1bn fund, which invests in technology-related stocks, has targeted long-term capital appreciation for shareholders since inception, and continues to deliver strong performance.1

Paul Wick leads a team of experienced investment professionals supporting the fund, including Shekhar Pramanick, Sanjay Devgan, Jeetil Patel, Vimal Patel, and Israel Hernandez. Together, the team draws on their collective expertise to source companies that provide value through enduring intellectual property, strong management teams, high-profit revenue growth and the potential for growth over long durations.

The fund’s consistent performance over four decades is due in large part to Wick’s leadership as Lead Portfolio Manager. He has managed the fund for 33 years, having first joined its portfolio management team in 1990. His tenure on the fund is longer than that of any other current portfolio manager of a U.S. technology fund.

"Having been a part of the management of this fund for the majority of my career, I’m proud to see it reach this milestone while still maintaining the quality performance that it offered when I first joined the team,” said Wick. “To me, the Columbia Seligman Technology and Information Fund exemplifies the core pillars of investing: a deep understanding and commitment to research by our dedicated portfolio management team, a conviction-weighted portfolio that mitigates risk, and a valuation-aware philosophy that identifies undervalued and misunderstood companies. The fund has a 40-year track record of consistent performance that speaks for itself.”

The fund’s investment approach leverages the expertise of Columbia Threadneedle’s Seligman Investments, that Wick leads. Based in Silicon Valley, the Seligman team is one of the industry’s largest and most experienced managing technology-focused strategies. It is comprised of 11 investment professionals averaging over 25 years of industry experience. The team also manages:

  • Columbia Seligman Global Technology Fund (SHGTX)
  • Seligman Premium Technology Growth Fund (STK)
  • Columbia Seligman Semiconductor and Technology ETF (SEMI) and a
  • A long-short technology focused strategy.

In the 40 years that the fund has been operational, the technology sector has experienced rapid and widespread innovation. The team’s differentiated investment style and sector expertise has allowed them to capitalize on opportunities during each wave of innovation to drive outperformance for the fund’s shareholders.

Market risk may affect a single issuer, sector of the economy, industry or the market as a whole. The products of technology companies may be subject to severe competition and rapid obsolescence, and technology stocks may be subject to greater price fluctuations. Investments in small- and mid-cap companies involve risks and volatility greater than investments in larger, more established companies. Foreign investments subject the fund to risks, including political, economic, market, social and others within a particular country, as well as to currency instabilities and less stringent financial and accounting standards generally applicable to U.S. issuers. As a non-diversified fund, fewer investments could have a greater effect on performance.

Morningstar Percentile Rankings are based on the average annual total returns of the funds in the category for the periods stated. They do not include sales charges or redemption fees but do include operating expenses and the reinvestment of dividends and capital gains distributions. Share class rankings vary due to different expenses. If sales charges or redemption fees were included, total returns would be lower.

For each fund with at least a three-year history, Morningstar calculates a Morningstar Rating™ used to rank the fund against other funds in the same category. It is calculated based on a Morningstar Risk-Adjusted Return measure that accounts for variation in a fund’s monthly excess performance, without any adjustments for loads (front-end, deferred, or redemption fees), placing more emphasis on downward variations and rewarding consistent performance. Exchange-traded funds and open-ended mutual funds are considered a single population for comparative purposes. The top 10% of funds in each category receive 5 stars, the next 22.5% receive 4 stars, the next 35% receive 3 stars, the next 22.5% receive 2 stars and the bottom 10% receive 1 star. (Each share class is counted as a fraction of one fund within this scale and rated separately, which may cause slight variations in the distribution percentages.) The Overall Morningstar Rating for a fund is derived from a weighted average of the performance figures associated with its three-, five- and ten-year (if applicable) Morningstar Rating metrics.
