USCYBERCOM’s successful Industry Days event held May 22-23 at MISI’s DreamPort facility highlighted the importance of collaboration between the private cybersecurity industry, academia and government

COLUMBIA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MISI, an organization driving discovery, education, collaboration, and scientific innovation in cybersecurity, is pleased to announce the appointment of Gregg Smith as its new Chief Executive Officer. As CEO, Smith will guide MISI through a new chapter of amassing industry and academic engagement, innovating more technology to address the evolving cyber threat landscape, and fostering a home base for collaboration across U.S. Cyber Command and U.S. government.

MISI’s Cyber Mission Accelerators®, DreamPort and Mindscape, are cybersecurity innovation and prototyping facilities serving the United States Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) through a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA). Through these facilities, MISI supports joint activities with small business firms and higher education institutions to create new cybersecurity solutions for specific challenge problems. MISI is actively seeking participation from small businesses to identify solutions, enable the future cyber workforce, and break down silos to improve government cybersecurity.

“I am thrilled to join the MISI team and to be part of a new era of innovation in support of USCYBERCOM’s mission. The DreamPort and Mindscape facilities are open for business, and we hope the industry will come from far and wide to join us in efforts to expand collaboration with the U.S. government,” said Smith. “The future of global cybersecurity requires that our nation continuously maximizes its ability to push the boundaries of how we think about cybersecurity. MISI is an incredibly unique organization with untapped potential to fuel the people and technology needed to solve critical cybersecurity challenges.”

Smith brings to MISI over 20 years of security and technology experience, including significant international business and government focused experience. Previously, Smith was CEO of Attila Security, acquired in 2021 by ID Technology, a CACI Company. Prior to Attila Security, Smith was CEO of Silent Circle, Acuity Mobile, KoolSpan, Karch International and Acuity Mobile. He was also President of Aether Systems (NASDAQ: AETH) and SVP of TeleCommunications Systems (NASDAQ: TSYS). Throughout his career, Smith has led nine companies to successful exits.

Smith served as Chairman of the Board for the Cybersecurity Association of Maryland (CAMI) from 2020-2022, and has been a board member for multiple companies including Kesala, Datatribe and Evergreen Advisors. A graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland and an Eagle Scout, Smith is committed to protecting the nation and solving some of the biggest security challenges facing both enterprise and government agencies today.

One recent example of small business collaboration took place during USCYBERCOM’s third annual Industry Days hosted at DreamPort on May 22-23. Presentations included a keynote from General Paul M. Nakasone, Commander of USCYBERCOM, Director of the National Security Agency, and Chief of the Central Security Service.

Join MISI for upcoming events, such as the National Cryptologic Foundation’s Cyber Saturday on June 10 at DreamPort. For more information about MISI’s Cyber Mission Accelerators, please visit misi.tech/mission-accelerators/.
