TotalEnergies has signed a significant 10-year Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Gujarat State Petroleum (GSPC) during the India Energy Week in New Delhi. Starting in 2026, TotalEnergies will supply GSPC with 400,000 tons of LNG annually, equivalent to six cargoes per year.

The LNG will be sourced from TotalEnergies' global portfolio and delivered to India's west coast terminals. The supply will primarily serve GSPC's industrial customers, Indian households for domestic use, businesses, and CNG service stations for vehicles like auto-rickshaws.

This agreement strengthens GSPC's strategy to secure competitive long-term LNG supply and address India's growing natural gas demand-supply deficit, particularly in Gujarat. The deal positions GSPC to become a leading Indian player in gas trading while supporting India's energy transition through natural gas as a cleaner alternative for industrial activities, cooking, and transportation.

A partire dal 2026, TotalEnergies fornirà a GSPC 400.000 tonnellate di GNL all'anno, equivalenti a sei carichi all'anno.

Insights

This decade-long LNG supply agreement marks a strategic expansion of TotalEnergies' presence in India's rapidly growing gas market. The commitment to supply 400,000 tons annually represents a calculated move to secure long-term market share in what is projected to be one of the world's fastest-growing LNG import markets.

The deal's timing is particularly strategic, commencing in 2026 when global LNG markets are expected to stabilize following the current wave of new liquefaction capacity additions. By securing this agreement now, TotalEnergies positions itself advantageously in India's evolving energy landscape, where natural gas demand is projected to grow at 6-7% annually through 2030.

For GSPC, this agreement provides important supply security and portfolio diversification. The specified volume, equivalent to six cargoes per year, offers flexibility in managing seasonal demand variations while serving multiple end-user segments - from industrial customers to CNG vehicles. This multi-sector approach aligns perfectly with India's strategy to increase natural gas's share in its energy mix from current 6.7% to 15% by 2030.

The agreement's structure, leveraging TotalEnergies' global portfolio for sourcing, provides operational flexibility and supply security. This arrangement allows TotalEnergies to optimize its global LNG portfolio while ensuring reliable deliveries to India's west coast terminals, strategically positioned near Gujarat's high-demand industrial clusters.
