About the Study and Key Results
- Retrospective study of 5,335 patients undergoing elective surgeries over four years. More than a quarter of the patients received CellerateRX in evaluation of clean (
76% ) or clean contaminated (24% ) cases. - Surgical specialties included general, surgical oncology, orthopedic, vascular, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic, plastic and gynecology.
- The use of activated collagen (CellerateRX) in patients undergoing elective surgery resulted in a
59% reduction in surgical site infection rates. This reduction was most pronounced in the clean cases with a69% decrease in surgical site infection rates.
Dr. Ryan Nowrouzi and Dr. Samir Awad, the lead investigators of the study, commented on the significance of the research, stating “Surgical site infections can lead to morbidity, mortality, and increased healthcare costs. This study demonstrates that activated collagen (CellerateRX) can be safely used in elective surgical procedures to promote wound healing of incisions with an associated decrease in the rate of surgical site infections following surgery.”
