HOUSTON, Aug. 05, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Salarius Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: SLRX), a clinical-stage oncology company targeting cancers caused by dysregulated gene expression, today announced the continued enhancement of the intellectual property (IP) portfolio governing its lead investigational drug candidate, seclidemstat. The European Patent Office (EPO) recently announced that the European Patent EP2744330, exclusively licensed to Salarius from the University of Utah Research Foundation, was issued on July 15, 2020. 

The European patent covers composition of matter and methods of use for seclidemstat, a potent reversible inhibitor of the LSD1 enzyme which is currently the subject of a Phase 1/2 clinical trial for Ewing sarcoma, a rare pediatric bone cancer, and a Phase 1/2 trial in advanced solid tumors (AST). Salarius intends to validate this European patent in several important EU countries, ensuring protection of seclidemstat and other compounds in Europe through at least August 2032.

Salarius also has nine patent applications pending approval in Brazil, Canada, Israel, India, Korea, Singapore and China.
