The introduction of the Strategas Macro Momentum ETF (SAMM) represents a significant addition to the exchange-traded fund (ETF) market, particularly for investors interested in active management strategies that capitalize on macroeconomic and market trends. The ETF's approach, focusing on securities that exhibit strong technical, momentum and relative strength characteristics, is designed to adapt to market cycles and potentially offer a hedge against volatility.

From a market research perspective, the unique selling point of SAMM is its active management component, which differentiates it from the plethora of passive index-tracking ETFs. By employing a tactical rotation strategy and the ability to shift to defensive assets like Treasury ETFs or Gold ETPs, SAMM offers an alternative for investors seeking to minimize drawdowns during market downturns. The fund's expense ratio of 0.65% is within the competitive range for similar active ETFs, which could influence its attractiveness to cost-conscious investors.

The ETF's launch also reflects a broader industry trend towards thematic and active investment vehicles. As market dynamics evolve, there's an increasing demand for products that can navigate complex global economic conditions and offer targeted exposure to market-leading sectors or themes. SAMM's strategy aligns with this demand, potentially attracting investors who are looking for more sophisticated investment solutions.

Strategas' decision to launch the SAMM ETF aligns with the growing investor appetite for active management strategies that promise to outperform standard market benchmarks. The performance of SAMM will largely depend on the efficacy of the proprietary research and the investment team's ability to accurately identify momentum trends. This will be critical for the fund's success, as misjudging market signals could lead to underperformance relative to passive strategies.

The fund's capacity to pivot towards defensive assets during volatile periods could be appealing to investors, especially in an environment where market conditions are uncertain. This flexibility to mitigate risk might provide a cushion against market downturns, potentially preserving capital. However, it's important to note that active management also introduces the risk of human error and the fund's performance will be closely tied to the investment team's decisions.

Investors will need to consider the fund's total expense ratio in the context of the potential for higher returns. While the fee is not exorbitant, it is higher than many passive ETFs and therefore, the fund will need to demonstrate its value through performance that justifies the additional cost.

The launch of SAMM is indicative of the strategic thinking that investment firms are applying to product development in a bid to capture market share in a saturated ETF space. The emphasis on a tactical and thematic approach to investing is a response to the increasing complexity of global markets and the desire for products that can navigate these complexities effectively.

Investment strategies that focus on momentum and relative strength have the potential to capitalize on market trends, but they also require a deep understanding of market cycles and the ability to act swiftly on inflection points. The success of SAMM will hinge on the investment team's proficiency in these areas and their ability to communicate the value of their strategy to advisors and investors.

For long-term investors, the ability of SAMM to complement existing holdings and provide diversification benefits could be a key consideration. The fund's active management and focus on market leadership may offer a differentiated exposure compared to traditional passive investments, which could be particularly valuable during periods of market dislocation or when specific sectors outperform.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Strategas Asset Management, LLC (Strategas), the investment advisory arm of one of the world’s leading institutional macro research providers, Strategas Securities, LLC (STS), today launched Strategas Macro Momentum ETF (NYSE Arca: SAMM), its third in a suite of thematic, actively managed ETFs. Strategas’ full suite of ETFs turns thematic ideas into investable solutions.

“SAMM is a one-of-a-kind actively managed ETF designed to identify the ‘investable conclusion’ from the often complex and interdependent variables affecting the global economy,” said Jason DeSena Trennert, Chairman and CIO with Strategas Asset Management. “This ETF aims to fill a gap for advisors and investors looking to leverage tactical rotation and take advantage of macro and market momentum wherever and whenever it may evidence itself.”

The identification and embrace of both macro and equity market momentum is at the foundation of SAMM. Leveraging nearly two decades of proprietary research, the SAMM investment team draws from a comprehensive library of momentum, trend following, relative strength, and behavioral inputs to arrive at security selection. The most tactical of the Firm’s active ETF offerings, SAMM seeks to identify the early signals of momentum and trend inflection, often even before a thematic justification reveals itself. It is designed to be sensitive to the market cycle and complements Strategas’ existing active ETF offerings consisting of Strategas Macro Thematic Opportunities ETF (SAMT) and Strategas Global Policy Opportunities ETF (SAGP).

“SAMM is the most tactical offering in our suite of ETF products,” said Chris Verrone, Lead Portfolio Manager of Strategas Macro Momentum ETF. “Where SAGP and SAMT position thematically across cycles, SAMM is designed to be more sensitive to the current market cycle—seeking and exploiting the market’s momentum impulse wherever it’s found.”

SAMM holds between 20 to 50 U.S. listed securities exhibiting strong technical, momentum, and relative strength characteristics, with a focus on owning securities with compelling risk/reward profiles. Additionally, the strategy is designed to limit drawdowns in adverse market environments by allocating additional assets to defensive alternatives. Strategas’ ETFs are listed on the NYSE Arca and carry total expense ratios of 0.65%.

The STS investment team is comprised of 15 analysts who combined have more than 200 years of experience researching the impact of changes in the macro economy and public policy on the capital markets.

“Taking an active approach is key to bringing these investment approaches to market in the most robust way and allows us to leverage insights and expertise from across our industry-leading macro research team,” added Trennert.
