Power Solutions International (OTC Pink: PSIX) reported a Q1 2021 net loss of $18.2 million, or $0.79 per share, compared to a loss of $0.7 million in Q1 2020. Sales fell by 5% to $100.2 million, driven by decreases in the energy and industrial markets, partially offset by a $22.8 million increase in transportation sales. Gross profit dropped 60% to $10.7 million, with a gross margin of 7.1%. Operating expenses rose by 6%, mainly due to legal costs. Outlook for 2021
The Company continues to expect its sales for the full year of 2021 to be at least 15 percent above 2020 levels as a result of anticipated growth across all of its end markets. The growth is projected to occur in the second, third and fourth quarters of 2021, as compared to the corresponding 2020 quarters. Additionally, profitability is expected to improve during 2021 on a year-over-year basis. Notwithstanding this positive outlook, which is being driven in part by expectations for improved economic conditions within the United States and across various of the Company’s markets, the Company cautions that significant uncertainty still remains as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
