MedMen Announces Investment from AWH into MedMen’s New York Operations
MedMen Enterprises (CSE: MMEN, OTCQX: MMNFF) has signed a definitive investment agreement with Ascend Wellness Holdings (AWH) for up to $73 million. This investment is aimed at MedMen NY Inc., its New York subsidiary, and requires regulatory approval. AWH will provide $35 million in cash and issue a senior secured promissory note for $28 million to reduce MMNY's debt. Following this investment, AWH will hold about 86.7% equity in MMNY and can acquire MedMen's remaining interest in the future. This move is expected to enhance New York's medical marijuana program.
- Investment of up to $73 million from AWH expected to strengthen MedMen's financial position.
- AWH will assume existing secured debt, potentially improving MedMen's balance sheet stability.
- AWH's expertise may enhance operational efficiency and patient services in New York's medical marijuana market.
- MedMen will lose majority control of its New York subsidiary, MMNY, post-investment.
- Investment is subject to regulatory approval, introducing uncertainty and potential delays.
- The requirement for AWH to invest an additional $10 million depends on the commencement of adult-use cannabis sales, which may not materialize.
