NORWAY'S AVINOR ACTIVATES AIREON DATA FOR ENTIRE BODØ OCEANIC AIRSPACE
On February 14, 2023, Avinor ANS, Norway's air navigation service provider, expanded its use of Aireon's space-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) data. Initially implemented in April 2022 for lower altitudes, the system now supports high-level operations across the Bodø Oceanic Flight Information Region (OFIR). This enhancement aims to improve air traffic control (ATC) awareness and safety while reducing separation for flights. Avinor ANS reported that the Aireon system performed comparably to ground-based systems, effectively enhancing operational efficiencies and safety in the region.
