The OMEGA scholarships recognize students for leading efforts in their high schools and communities to foster intergenerational connections. Each recipient’s school or community partner also received $1,000 to continue its intergenerational efforts. The 2021 OMEGA scholarship winners are:

  • Sabine Arndt, Aliso Niguel High School, Aliso Viejo, California, now a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her “Technology Tutors” program paired students with older adults to teach technology and promote multigenerational relationship-building.
  • Darren Tran and Armaan Tipirneni, seniors, Lexington High School, Lexington, Massachusetts. Their “Lexington Intergenerational Outreach Club” pairs students with older adults needing help with tasks. In their special initiative, “Project Wisdom,” the Lexington Historical Society will archive student interviews with older adults.
  • Alli Brophy, Gilbert High School, Gilbert, South Carolina, now a student at Winthrop University. Her group, “Generations Connections,” recruited students to call and write letters during the pandemic to alleviate social isolation and loneliness among older adults.
  • C’Lannye James, John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science, Roxbury, Massachusetts, now a student at Union College. A leader in the “Community Voices: Speaking Truth” program at the Center for Community Health Education Research and Service (CCHERS, Inc.), C’Lannye and her group conducted virtual and live wellness check-ins with Black and Latinx residents in Roxbury.

“At Five Star, our mission is to enrich and inspire the journey of life, one experience at a time,” said Zehra Abid-Wood, Five Star’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategic Implementation. “The students recognized through the OMEGA program model the empathy and respect necessary to advance the quality of life for older adults.
