The Company noted that these preliminary results have been prepared in good faith on a consistent basis with prior periods; however National Vision has not yet completed its financial closing procedures for the quarter ended July 1, 2023, and its actual results are subject to change and could be materially different from this preliminary financial information. National Vision noted that its fiscal 2023 second quarter performance was largely in line with its expectations and driven primarily by continued strength from its managed care business and ongoing execution of its strategic initiatives. The year-over-year change in Adjusted Operating Income was primarily driven by the Company’s ongoing investments in strategic initiatives and the normalization of incentive compensation, as the Company expected, partially offset by the timing of certain selling, general and administrative expense as well as lower depreciation expense in the quarter.
The Company also today reaffirmed its fiscal 2023 outlook as previously communicated on May 11, 2023, and, given its year-to-date performance, the Company expects Adjusted Operating Income and Adjusted Diluted Earnings Per Share (EPS) to be at or above the midpoint of its previously provided guidance ranges.
The information provided above includes preliminary estimates of Adjusted Operating Income and Adjusted Diluted EPS, which are non-GAAP financial measures management uses in measuring performance.

Adjusted Comparable Store Sales Growth: We measure Adjusted Comparable Store Sales Growth as the increase or decrease in sales recorded by the comparable store base in any reporting period, compared to sales recorded by the comparable store base in the prior reporting period, which we calculate as follows: (i) sales are recorded on a cash basis (i.e. when the order is placed and paid for or submitted to a managed care payor, compared to when the order is delivered), utilizing cash basis point of sale information from stores; (ii) stores are added to the calculation during the 13th full fiscal month following the store’s opening; (iii) closed stores are removed from the calculation for time periods that are not comparable; (iv) sales from partial months of operation are excluded when stores do not open or close on the first day of the month; and (v) when applicable, we adjust for the effect of the 53rd week. Quarterly, year-to-date and annual adjusted comparable store sales are aggregated using only sales from all whole months of operation included in both the current reporting period and the prior reporting period.
