Insights

Digital Realty's strategic expansion into Indonesia via a 50-50 joint venture with Bersama Digital Infrastructure Asia represents a significant growth opportunity in one of Southeast Asia's fastest-developing digital markets. The company has made a $100 million investment for its stake, which includes operational data centers and adjacent land for expansion.

The JV immediately provides Digital Realty with established operational presence through two data centers: the recently launched CGK11 in Central Jakarta (initially 5MW with expansion potential to 32MW) and CGK10 in West Jakarta. This strategic positioning in Jakarta's central business district creates a connectivity advantage, with direct access to Indonesia's largest internet exchange provider (APJII).

What makes this expansion particularly valuable is the multi-faceted revenue opportunity. Beyond equity returns, Digital Realty will receive ongoing property management and development fees from the joint venture. The Jakarta colocation market itself shows impressive growth projections, expected to generate $499 million in 2025 with a 11% five-year CAGR.

The partnership optimally combines Digital Realty's global expertise and PlatformDIGITAL® capabilities with BDIA's local market knowledge and established infrastructure. By incorporating ServiceFabric™ into the facilities, the company positions itself to support the increasing demand for high-performance computing and AI workloads in Indonesia's digital economy, which is being driven by the country's young, tech-savvy population.
