Starting September 13, 2021, vaccinated guests will need to present a negative test taken within two days prior to embarkation. The initiative provides access to testing at over 1,500 Quest Diagnostics locations in the U.S., streamlining the pre-cruise process.

Holland America Line is set to fully resume its cruise operations by spring 2022, with Noordam, Oosterdam, and Westerdam restarts. Noordam will cruise in Japan starting March 14, 2022; Oosterdam in the Mediterranean from May 1; and Westerdam will begin Alaska journeys on May 8. All ships will join existing vessels, concluding the fleet's return. Guests on canceled 2022 cruises can choose rebooking for 2023 or a full refund.

Carnival Cruise Line has partnered with the city of New Orleans and FEMA to use the Carnival Glory as emergency housing for first responders until Sept. 18. This decision leads to the cancellation of the cruise scheduled for Sept. 12, with operations resuming on Sept. 19. The ship arrived in New Orleans to support local infrastructure recovery and healthcare needs after Hurricane Ida. Carnival aims to assist the city while preparing for future guest operations, demonstrating commitment to community support during emergencies.

Holland America Line announces its 2022-23 Panama Canal itineraries featuring four ships, including Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Volendam, and Zuiderdam. Guests can enjoy full transits between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, with voyages ranging from 14 to 23 days. Carnival Cruise Line announced further ship restarts, increasing operations to 15 ships by mid-November. Key dates include Carnival Valor's restart on Nov. 1 from New Orleans and Carnival Legend's on Nov. 14 from Baltimore. Carnival Radiance's maiden voyage is now on Dec. 13, while Carnival Conquest's restart has been rescheduled to the same date. The Carnival Sensation has been pushed to Jan. 2022. Health protocols remain, requiring proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test for guests. The cruise line also canceled four additional sailings from Australia.

Holland America Line has announced the return of its ships Volendam and Zaandam to service in May 2022. Volendam will offer voyages in Northern Europe, while Zaandam will operate in the Canada/New England region. The Grand World Voyage and Grand South America and Antarctica Voyage will not occur in 2022 but will resume in 2023. The ship Zuiderdam will feature a 128-day Grand World Voyage, and guests from canceled 2022 voyages will automatically be transferred to 2023 bookings. Full refunds are also available until September 24, 2021.

On August 25, 2021, Princess Cruises announced the updated restart schedules for the Island Princess and Diamond Princess cruise ships. Island Princess is set to resume Caribbean cruises in spring 2022, culminating in a 14-day Panama Canal voyage on April 27, 2022. Diamond Princess will also return to Japan sailings in spring 2022. Notably, the cruise line will cancel its 2021-2022 South America and Antarctica Program and its 2022 World Cruise. Affected guests can transfer to a future cruise or receive a full refund. Seabourn has announced the inaugural itineraries for its ultra-luxury expedition vessel, Seabourn Venture, set to sail in April 2022. The two new voyages, Wild & Ancient British Isles Voyage and Scottish and Norse Legends Expedition, will explore the UK, starting from Greenwich to Leith, with 12-day durations. Bookings open on August 19, 2021. The ship will also operate extensively in the Arctic starting in May 2022. Unique features include all-suite accommodations, inclusive expedition experiences, and partnerships with UNESCO.
