Frontgrade Gaisler Launches New GRAIN Line and Wins SNSA Contract to Commercialize First Energy-Efficient Neuromorphic AI for Space Applications
Frontgrade Gaisler has secured a contract from the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA) to commercialize the first neuromorphic System on Chip (SoC) device for space applications. The company has launched its new GRAIN (Gaisler Research Artificial Intelligence NOEL-V) product line, featuring the Gr801 SoC as its first device.
The Gr801 integrates BrainChip's Akida™ neuromorphic technology with Gaisler's NOEL-V RISC-V processor into a single integrated circuit, designed for energy-efficient AI applications in space. Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) is contributing by developing a demonstration application using a neuromorphic sensor connected to the GR801.
The GRAIN product line aims to enable more advanced and autonomous space missions, supporting both commercial and institutional applications while meeting strict power and weight constraints.
