Balfour Beatty has announced key senior leadership changes within its US Civils business. Mark Johnnie has been promoted to chief operating officer (COO), focusing on operational excellence across highways, bridges, rail, and water sectors. He brings over 25 years of experience, continuing his oversight of the Southeast while also expanding to the Southwest. Kelly Phariss has been appointed vice president of West operations, managing projects in California, Oregon, and Washington. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded Balfour Beatty a $242.35 million design-build contract to enhance U.S. 70 between Havelock Bypass and east of Thurman Road in Craven County. This project, covering a 6.4-mile stretch, aims to improve mobility, military interconnectivity, and safety, as well as support economic development. Construction is set to begin in late 2023 and is expected to be completed by Summer 2028. Balfour Beatty has a long-standing relationship with NCDOT, having previously worked on multiple interstate improvement projects.

Balfour Beatty, as part of LINXS Constructors, has achieved a key milestone in modernizing Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) by placing the last structural steel beam for the Automated People Mover (APM) stations. This project, part of a $5.5 billion initiative, enhances connectivity and reduces congestion for travelers. The West Central Terminal Area station, the largest, will feature innovative design elements and connects to multiple terminals. The APM aims to facilitate quicker transport to various locations, improving the overall travel experience.

Balfour Beatty has secured contracts exceeding $235 million for various educational and federal projects in California. Key projects include:

• $99 million for Fontana USD's Secondary Academy.
• $28.8 million for Kavod Charter School renovation.
• $4 million for entry improvements in La Mesa-Spring Valley School District.

Balfour Beatty, as part of the Colorado River Constructors joint venture, has achieved a significant milestone in the $674 million Oak Hill Parkway project for the Texas Department of Transportation. On June 16, the team set the first bridge beams, facilitating upcoming widening operations over Old Fredericksburg Road. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance mobility along US 290 and SH 71, with completion expected in 2026. Ongoing work includes traffic shifts and the construction of various structures, with nearly 400,000 cubic yards excavated to date.

Balfour Beatty has appointed Marla Storm as the new Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for its U.S. operations.
