$7 million investment in local water infrastructure enhances reliability, resiliency & fire protection of Pekin’s community water system
PEKIN, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Two major water main replacement projects were completed in late 2024 that enhance the overall water delivery system to Pekin customers, according to company officials.
“We continue to strategically invest and make improvements in the infrastructure of Pekin’s water system,” said Matt White, Senior Manager, Operations, Illinois American Water’s Western Division. “We worked closely with the City of Pekin on both projects. We appreciate the city’s ongoing support and collaboration with Illinois American Water.”
A look at the two important projects in Pekin:
Well 8 & 9 Transmission Improvements
This project installed approximately 8,800 feet of 12-inch and 16-inch water main along Lakecrest Drive, Velde Drive, Susan Hope Drive, Kennedy Drive, 11th Street, and Sheridan Road to increase the capacity and reliability of the water distribution system in the area. The new water main parallels existing 12-inch and 8-inch water mains along the route, with periodic tie-ins to enhance the distribution system and support the community into the future. Pipco Companies (Peoria), along with Maurer-Stutz (Peoria), worked on the project. Construction started in 2022 and the improvements were completed in 2024. Project cost was approximately $4.74 million.
Derby Street Water Main Replacement
This project was coordinated with the City of Pekin during the city’s roadway reconstruction project along Derby Street. The project replaced the aging water main and relocated a water main to allow for the City's improvements of the roadway and storm sewer along Derby Street. Illinois American Water partnered with the City to have the water main work constructed as part of the city’s roadway project. JC Dillon (Peoria) and Maurer-Stutz (Peoria) worked on the project. Construction started in 2023 and the improvements were completed in 2024. Project cost was approximately $2.23 million.
