Company Commits to Drive Outcomes Through Alignment on Sustainable Business Practices

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Blue Apron (NYSE: APRN) announced today that it has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. With over 16,000 company participants from over 160 countries, UNGC is a voluntary initiative based on the belief that corporate sustainability starts with a company’s value system and a principles-based approach to doing business.

As a UNGC Participant, Blue Apron is committed to elevating its role to show the different ways it can help drive the outcomes of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“We are a carbon-neutral meal-kit company that is focused on bringing incredible recipes to our customers while promoting planetary and dietary wellness for everyone,” said Linda Findley, Blue Apron’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud to join UNGC as we believe it will allow us to glean insightful best practices while continuing to hold ourselves accountable for our progress.”

In addition to joining the UNGC, Blue Apron’s Vice President of Culinary, Chef John Adler, has joined the UN’s Chef Manifesto, a global community designed to help deliver good food for all. Chefs can play an important role in driving action as they are on the front lines of their communities and have in-depth knowledge of food system value chains, expertise in creating delicious, nutritious meals, and a passion for seeing people come together around the table.

“Since our founding, we’ve focused on sourcing responsibly, supporting regenerative agriculture and fishing practices, reducing food waste throughout the supply chain, and, when possible, donating surplus food to food banks in the communities where we operate,” said Adler. “By joining the Chef Manifesto, we look forward to collaborating with chefs and thought leaders in the culinary world to further our efforts, share our approaches and learn from others who have done remarkable work in support of this goal.”

Blue Apron is focused on several SDGs, with special attention on SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) as they are aligned with the company’s vision of Better Living Through Better Food™. Blue Apron intends to report on its actions with the company’s planned annual ESG reporting.
